Murder toll rises to 365

THE murder toll for the year rose by two, to 365, on Thursday, after two men were gunned down in separate incidents.

In the first case, an Arima man was shot dead by a killer who the police believed crept through a filthy gully to stalk his target.

The victim, Anand Ramsingh, 24, spent the last few minutes of his life at Freedom Street, Arima, around 8.30 p.m., where he was found by his attacker, who fired several shots at him.

Ramsingh was killed on the spot while his killer managed to escape.

Police were unable to find a solid motive behind the murder, but believe the victim may have been liming with a group of men they described as ’the wrong crowd’.

A post mortem was done on Ramsingh’s body yesterday morning at the Forensic Science Centre in St James. It concluded he died as a result of the several gunshot wounds.

Homicide Bureau officers are continuing investigations.

In the second incident, Diego Martin resident David ’Scully’ Corria, 30, of O’Donahue Street, was talking with friends mere feet away from his home shortly after midnight yesterday, when a group of men approached the group and opened fire.

Corria was hit, but still managed to run to his home, by which time an emergency call was made.

The gunmen then scattered and escaped.

Corria was taken to the St. James Medical Facility, where he died while undergoing emergency treatment.

Police said they had no motive for the shooting.

Officers from the Port of Spain Homicide Bureau are continuing investigations into this incident.
