RAMSUNDAR Parsan was a man of prayer.
He would awake every morning and go to the nearby temple in his yard and pray. That daily devotion ended in death yesterday when 51-year-old Parsan was attacked by a swarm of bees which had taken up residence inside a cupboard within the temple at the family’s home at Forres Park Road, Claxton Bay.
His daughter Ria Parsan, 21, told Express that her father was a devout Hindu.
She said he was aware of the presence of the bees in the temple but probably forgot about them and entered.
’He doesn’t see very well because he is a complicated case with diabetes and high blood pressure,’ Ria said.
’When he went in the temple, he probably held on to the cupboard for support and raised the bees.’
Ria said the family became aware that something was wrong when they heard Parsan, a father of three girls, scream out.
’We rushed downstairs and he was covered with bees. There were so many. We were trying to get them off but they started attacking us as well. We had to use (insecticide) spray and water and we finally got them off.
’Daddy then went and took a shower to try and get the stingers off.’
Ria said she was tending to Parsan and was applying an anti-sting lotion to his skin when he started gasping for air and frothing at the mouth.
The family contacted the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Ria was instructed to perform first aid on Parsan, who worked as a clerk at his father’s construction business in Gasparillo. Parsan died in her arms.
Relatives said the bees have been in the area for quite sometime and had made a nearby abandoned lightpole their home. They said several complaints to the relevant authorities at the Ministry of Agriculture went unheeded until Parsan died yesterday.
