Water woes at Beetham

Some of us might remember back to a time that when water was about to be locked off, a man on a bicycle would ride through the area ringing a bell. You then had time to fill up your buckets and basin. No water for more than a day! Unheard of.
Wake up Beetham, wake up people of Trinidad and Tobago, open your eyes. Do you see any 'care' out there? And while you collect water from the canal, I hope you have money to pay the Property Tax. If not, they going to take back the house that they give you. Show them the gate, three years is a long time to wait.

In a country where the leadership and politicians both government and opposition enjoy very privilidged life styles. We still see people suffering for water. Water is not a luxury, it is a HUMAN RIGHT. I live in the UK but TnT is where I was born and it is painfull to see such conditions still are allowed to continue. If WASA knew they were going to stop the supply for repairs, then simply ensure people have water with trucks.
I am sure if these repairs were necessary in St Anns and would have affected President's House or The Prime Minister's residence no matter who is in power they would have made sure the occupants were not affected.
It is simply disgracefull and sad to see in country of so much wealth the population still cannot have basic necessities continuosly. Mr PM I have respect to your office but before you help outside you must fix your house and if you are to truly have first world status you must get right. I know i live in the UK. If I leave my water tap on 365 days it will keep flowing. |

Bloody Hell! For a moment i thought i was reading about one of the African countries where this is an everyday way of life.I could'nt believe, this article and picture, was taken on our once beautiful island.Once i started reading,i was 'gobsmacked'.In my early years our taps were never dry,in spite of having to walk to the pipe in the village 2 collect water,as not many of us could afford to have running water from the mains in our homes. It's such a shame the gov't did not see it fit to put all our Tax and oil Money to better use in our Country & Pple be4 wasting it on things that will not be benefical to us the grass roots. Shame on them yet we dotish pple like it so and will complain, yet go out to vote them in next election.

This is what I call absolute ridiculous. No one should have to live like this. The government for Trinidad is not doing anything to help the people of Trinidad. if you read the budget is all about how much $$ they can get from people……………………..WHY they just want to make sure that they family has everything and let the other people suffer. Why did they have to raise house taxes? Food prices are off the roof and one in the government is doing anything about it |

The leaders spend MILLIONS to host U.S. president and other world leaders in Trinidad but cannot supply their own residents with the basic need of water!!!
You said the water had to be turned off to do three sepperate main breaks, what about when it was just only one or the first water main break.... PROACTIVE NOT REACTIVE is the KEY.
By shutting the whole area down to do these repairs, don't you think it's a wise idea to install ISOLATION VALVES so when this happens again in this particular area, a smaller amount of residents will be affected with no water.
Also when the water is turn back on DISINFECTION AND CHLORINATION will be no problem and "COST EFFECTIVE".
"Because we all know W.A.S.A. is RESPONSIBLE for the WATER QUALITY. |

It is so sad to witness a situation like this in a country where we can spend billions of dollars constructing buildings that are of no use to anyone. What saddens me even more is that our PM is OK with having children drinking water from canals. If this is the case then i guess we really are no better than the poorest countries in Africa and Asia. I hope that these residents realise that there is no hope with the PNM! |

WASA, clean water is a necessity to our people. If you have to repair broken pipes and must turn off the water supply, don't you have the common sense to inform the residents in Beetham, and provide truck borne water to ensure they have a supply to do their cleaning up. H1N1 is knocking on our doors, and sanitation is essential to prevent its spread. Or is it because it is in Beetham that you have kept away? |

It is unfortunate that these people do not have access to clean drinking water. What would help them is the use of solar purification where there can leave a bowl of dirty water in the sun covered with an angled piece of glass and another clean collection container at the bottom of the lower glass edge. Water will evaporate and then condense on the glass and then fall into the clean bowl. This leaves behind solid particles as well as pathogens which may cause illness. |

The Incredulity of Irony - While Beetham “PNM ‘til ah dead” Residents are risking all sorts of dubious diseases to collect a basic necessity like water from a canal, PNM is spending $5m in addition to already gross expenses for their music group Divine Echoes.
Maybe Divine Echoes can play for free at Beetham Gardens to uplift the residents with song?

What is Manning really doing with our tax dollars except having him live in a mansion and fly all over the world in private jet? He close down the sugar industry which was the first back bone of our economy and now sugar price shy rocketed, agriculture at an all time low, food and building material prices are sky high, people have to protest for roads to be repaired, flooding is a nightmare and look how people are suffering for the basic need of water. What is really happening to our once great country that was the pride of the Caribbean? People all over are now laughing at us because of this government. |

I do feel sorry for the residence of the area. The ministry of health should look into this the act of the child washing from the river, could pose a health threat to the child and by extent the larger community if they all use this river. The country is battling with swine flu, it would be sad if there should occur cholera along with it...it is sad to see in this day and age... we have not gone very far have we, despite the big beautiful buildings that decorate or skyline in the capital... |

Patrick if you still listen to your conscience you will do smething immediately to clean up you stale show you...the Manning Administration is the biggest laughing stock of the Caribbean. I hope the die hard pnm supporters in the beetham pay notice to this and realise that if this is what they want from the government they put in power.
Every year they are taken by buses to show their support in various parts of the country.
Now who is supporting them when their basic needs of water and a house are being taken away. Some of them don't even make enough to have a savings so how are they going to pay their 3000 tt dollar tax bill and then try to buy water to drink and perform basic amenities.
But sadly these PNMites will ut thier beloved Manning into power once more. The race card is used by the PNM to gain power just as the muslimeen have been used to keep person from going out to vote.
Keep it up manning.
I have travelled to many countries and have seen development, Singapore, US, UK,Norway,India(very fast development even with curruption), Ghana( who is now using trinidads expertise on oil and gas exploration)
ETC
So please trinidadians don't vote on race and suffer yourselves and me like this please vote for a quality government.
I wish this ncould happen in my beautifull country. |

Are you serious, is the government of the day happy with human beings living like this? This is not a political or party thing, this about the basic rights of the people that live there. We are happy to fool the world into believing that we are working to that first world status but if we cannot provide the citizens of our county with their basic needs no matter how much money we throw about we will never get there. The powers that be should be ashamed! |
