Victim's girlfriend: Justice must be served
5 gunned down at Curepe club

DAMIAN Punnette always parked his Toyota pick-up overnight at his Curepe workplace for safety.

And that is exactly what the 25-year-old went to do on Sunday morning when he was fatally shot inside the Curepe club where he was a caretaker for several years.

This according to Punnette’s girlfriend, who requested anonymity, when the Express visited the Forensic Science Centre in Federation Park yesterday.

Punnette was one of five men shot dead at the La Cabana Club located on Knowles Street in Curepe around 2.30 a.m. on Sunday.

Also killed during that bloodbath were Kerron Charles, Hakim Vickles, Glen Morris, Ray James.

While, Kelvin Parris and Girma Selassie were also injured during the massacre.

Punnette was a caretaker at the bar for several years, his long-time girlfriend said yesterday.

Her 20th birthday was on Saturday night and the couple spent the night at her parents home, she said.

And when the couple reached their Curepe apartment, Punnette dropped her off and went to park his pick-up in its usual spot at his workplace, she said.

However, when he went to the club someone was parked in that spot and Punnette went inside the bar to get the driver to move the car, she said.

And that is when the unthinkable happened, gunmen entered Punnette’s workplace and opened fire.

Punnette as well as the four other victims all died on the spot.

Punnette’s boss called her and told her what had happened.

’I can’t eat, we just finished celebrating my birthday, and to hear he dead, I pray to God for some answers, I need some answers as to why this happened, to know he dead just so very hard to accept, he is an innocent person, justice needs to be served,’ she said.

’The police need to get serious and try and solve these murders, this is not another one of them unsolved mysteries, this is not a case to leave just so, they need to solve this one, this murder have to be solved, I can’t stomach it, it hurting,’ she said.

She also called on more police patrols because of rising crime affecting the Curepe/St Augustine area.

The autopsies of the five murdered men were all done yesterday.

Up to presstime both Parris and Selassie were listed in stable condition at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) under police protection.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Gilbert Reyes was locked in a meeting with investigating officers yesterday afternoon to determine how to solve the massacre, a source said.

Up to press time no one was held in connection with the killings.
