Bandits ambush T&TEC repair crew

Bandits attacked and robbed a Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) emergency response crew on Monday evening. The five-man T&TEC crew was responding to a complaint by the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) of a burning meter base located at St Paul’s Street, Laventille, when they were ambushed and attacked by a group of four, armed men, said the commission.

The T&TEC crew was robbed of cellphones, jewelry and cash before the bandits escaped. A report was made at the Besson Street Police Station soon after the attack and T&TEC dispatched another crew with security officers to resolve the problem in Laventille.

Officers attached to the Besson Street Police Station said though no one was held for the robbery up to late yesterday, they know who the bandits were and will make an arrest soon.

Stephen Martel, T&TEC corporate communications manager, said the commission condemned the attack on the employees. He said in order for T&TEC to provide the quality of service that the public deserves, the field crews must be able to safely visit all areas to perform necessary construction and maintenance work.

Every time this happens they should switch off the electricity to laventille until the crimminals are caught. Someone knows who is perpetrating this folly. Turn of the electricity and let the rotten elements of laventille plot their crimes by candlelight.
Laventille again Posted: 2009-09-16 12:59:00 AM
When would this nonsense stop,Wasa T&TEC and Tstt workers have to risk their lives going to provide service to these people. If the police know who they are why don't they arrest them. These providers need to get police escort for there workers because at the end of the day who is going to accountable if something more serious happens. Laventtille needs to be caged around,it is sad but true because that is where most of the criminals are bred, that is the breeding ground for them.
