Man found hanging after killing friend

Roger Pershier, who was found hanging at an abandoned house in Marabella on Sunday, committed suicide after killing his friend Kerwyn Chan, police believe.

Chan’s body was found at his home at El Pasario Village, Guaracara, Tabaquite on Monday afternoon. Police said he died from a blow to the head.

Chan, 29, was the father of a nine year old girl.

But he and Pershier, known as Foots, were said to be drug abusers.

Both men spent last Saturday at the home of a friend, built a tent for a wake.

The two left for Chan’s home, promising to return for the wake that night.

But Pershier was seen leaving the village that night, telling neighbours he was headed for Marabella.

Chan, whose parents live at Mapapire Road, Whiteland, was never seen alive again.

His mother, primary school teacher Julie Chan, told the Express ’I didn’t see him Sunday. He usually came for lunch. I went to school Monday and it was around lunch time that I heard a story that they had found ’Foots’ hanging in Marabella. So I called Kerwyn on his phone but got no answer’.

Julie Chan, 53 said that evening, she asked to be taken to her son’s home.

On the living room couch lay the body of her first-born son. The mother remembered her son’s descent into drug use.

’I had him for eight years before I had any other child. He was so talented and intelligent. He could have been anything.

She said the lure of the drugs was too strong.

The body of Peshier was found hanging from the door frame of an abandoned house at Battoo Avenue. The house is a haven for drug users.
