Former MP Eulalie James robbed at Laventille home

FORMER Laventille West member of parliament, Eulalie James, was yesterday robbed of $30,000 worth of cash and jewelry while at her St John’s Street, Laventille home.

The Express was told that the robbery occurred at 2.30 a.m.

According to the police, two bandits stormed the former MP’s home, pointed a gun at her and ordered that she hand over her valuables. After grabbing what they could the men left. James was unharmed during the robbery.

Back in 2007, James opted not to run for re-election following major surgery in Cuba, during which time her right leg was amputated.

James, who is a diabetic, had been a Member of Parliament for Laventille West for 13 years, but it was in the months leading up to the 2007 General Election she opted not to seek re-election due to her health concerns.

In an interview with reporters just prior to officially announcing her decision to stay out of active politics, she described her constituency as a ’hilly’ one and noted with her condition, she would not be able to serve her constituents as best as she could.

I will not be surprised if the robbers knew Ms. James because today these robbers don't only rob but they kill you even after they steal from you. For them to rob from someone who is not 100% independent is very very sad...M

The thing with them people up there is that they will eat their young and their old. So what would they do to you and me. They are just so morally devoid that you can only shake you head and wonder what they will do next. Nothing surprises me anymore. Here is a woman who gave most of her career to seeing about them and now that she does not have the use of her leg, you'd think they would come and help her, but instead they came and robbed her. You can't blame the government for these young people. They got the best that the government had to offer them and yet it was not enough. What they need and obviously do not get is strict supervision at home from day one. So they grow up like animals in the jungle and they live by the rules of the jungle, which is to say everybody is prey. A lost generation, that is what we are seeing.

The chicken has come home to roost. This statement was made by Malcolm X in the wake of the assasination of President JFK. This statement also began his fall out with the Black Muslims. Examine this statement and let's be real. However, I do emphatize for the ee minister.

This robbery is the result of the seeds that the PNM government sowed, how ironic!
irony Posted: 2009-09-17 06:01:00 AM
Well this is what we call irony, especially with the PM declaring some time back that we do not have a crime problem.

Why was this amount of cash that was alledgely stolen kept at home? What was she thinking? It beggars belief that a lady who in our view,is so intelligent could find herself in this situation. We feel this is someone who knew her business and not an outsider.Look at those closest to you.So sorry that one can do this to a disabled lady who was able to help us in our constituency. Not even leaders, elders and those in authority can control the evil that has been unleashed upon Trinidad & Tobago. Ms.James a former MP, Community leader and known person in the area has gotten a taste of what has become a part of everyday life here in TnT. When we use to look forward to going and pick fruits(Mango, plum and so on) we have to be very careful that we don't get robbed or worst yet Murdered. Now i hope Ms.James calls her Friends in the Government and give them a first hand account of her experience and maybe just maybe they might try to take a different approach when dealing with crime in the Hills of laventille. I mean how long will we deny the fact that it sometimes looks like the Slums in Rio in Brazil, will we ignore this fact? This is a S-O-S for some one to "Save Our Society". P.S Who will be the next Victim? Me? or maybe you?

Now that crime of this kind has hit the home of a PNM buddy, maybe now the PNM government will accept the fact that, innocent people are being victimized like this every day, and the police does squat about it. There was a thief in our yard, we called the police and they seemed nonchalant, the thief came back again a few days after, the police said, when you call, you have to get the first police you spoke too, are they kidding me. When you call the police, any unit available should come to your assistance, it is a life or death situation. This PNM government cannot help control crime, unemployment, poverty, education or anything else as a matter of fact, sometimes people feel they are living in a non government society
Disgraceful act! Posted: 2009-09-17 10:39:00 AM
What a disgraceful act by these heartless, coldblooded hoodlums. You look at an individual with a handicap and rob her. Your turn will come sure enough because the sad tears of many such as mine are falling upon you. I am still thankful that you were not physically hurt Ms. James. I pray that you would be able, by God's good grace, to overcome this horrible experience. Do stay well. Hugs from the US.

There are some sectors of society that believe they are immune to crime. Our complacency if finally catching up with us,when those in power turn a blind eye to the immorality and sadism of the criminals, they will not be able to cover their nose from the decay of the stink.
