Teen wants lover's sex charge dropped
'I'm marrying him'

A girl who wants to marry the man who allegedly had unlawful sex with her, asked the court yesterday to discontinue the sex charge against her lover.

’I would not like to go further with the matter,’ the teenager, who was accompanied by her mother, said.

But Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington told the girl that dropping the indictable charge was not that easy. He also warned the teenager that she could be held in contempt of court should she refuse to give evidence in the matter.

’The matter is not under your control. The matter is for the DPP,’ he told the teen.

It is alleged that last October, Guyanese Vishnu Persad had sex with the minor. The teen said he is the father of their three-month-old child.

Attorney Anuusha Panday said she wrote the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on the matter after Persad’s last appearance in the San Fernando First Court.

Police prosecutor Joey Samaroo was yesterday advised to do the same. Bail was again refused to Persad. The matter was adjourned to September 28.

A similar request was made in the case of David Indarsingh, whose alleged victim, a 13-year-old girl, also wants to marry him.

It is alleged that on Independence Day at Bedeau Street, Gasparillo, the 23-year-old had sexual intercourse with the minor. He was charged by Constable Valentine Eastman of the Gasparillo Police Station.

Indarsingh was granted $30,000 on his first court appearance. Yesterday, his matter was adjourned to September 29.

Sorry kid, but you were 13 at the time of the violation, and he was 23. This is a case of an adult having sex with a minor. It is a crime. You are a child and you are not mature enough to make these adult decisions. You say you want to marry him? What do you know about marriage. You have a child at your young age. Try and salvage your life, now before it is too late. Let the case proceed. Go to school and get an education. When you are 18 and still believe that you wish to marry him, you can do so them. But right now our legal system must do its job. Magistrate Mark Wellington, do not drop a stinky bomb on this one. Please do a thorough job on this one without prejudice. What's the matter with this mother, has she lost her senses? If you love your child, you will not encourage her to destroy the rest of her life. If there was a time for you to be a real mother, now is the time.

These young girls are sometimes the aggressor in these relationships, but grown men should have more self control and less lust and ego so that they can withstand temptation. I hope he goes to jail for a very long time with the hard labour. That should send a message to the predators out there who corrupt the morals of young girls. She, the girl, needs some lessons in self esteem. Again, she shows up with her mother, which means: No parental control in the house. What shame.
13 year old and have a baby Posted: 2009-09-18 06:52:00 AM
13 years and already have a baby? where was this chils's mother when all this was taking place? Then the Government will be blamed, come on now education is free take advantage of it, why put your self throught this at such tender age? your life have not even began, and you want to get married? what non sense is that?. Men, please, give these minors a chance. Mothers, you made the child the child did not make you, act your role.

This is not an isolated case and is definitely a social problem that must be urgently addressed if we really want to protect our future generation.
A Nation of total lawlessness Posted: 2009-09-18 03:43:00 AM
I dont give a flying fart what she wants. She is not even an adult and what the parents have no say or are they encouraging it? Charge him and put him in prison! Let him know what he did was wrong in the eyes of the law. Too many children under the age of 16 in this country are having children for men who are over the age of 21. Have they no respect, no conscious. Its not a matter of love, its an act of molestation and Pedophilia. What are we doing? We are certainly letting people get away with crimes like these.. this and incest!!! This so called law system we have here is a bloody waste of time..
WOW!!!!!!!!! Posted: 2009-09-18 04:36:00 AM

Jail them Posted: 2009-09-18 09:02:00 AM
Pedophilia is a crime whether or not we want to admit it. These CHILDREN should not be allowed to choose if these men are prosecuted. They are brain washed and are being taken advantage of. The state needs to make the right decision for them and continue to protect our children from these predators. Jail them!

This is the time for this 'child' to get some serious counselling and for that young man to feel the weight of the law. Everbody is rebuking Goverment but it is these crimes that breakdown our society.

This is why before you feel sorry for any of these girls nowadays, get the facts first
Nonsense Posted: 2009-09-18 12:46:00 AM
This is sheer utter nonsense. Why is she not in school getting an eduacation and trying to making something good of herself? How is he going to take care of the child....hand to mouth at the mercy of people? Where are her parents and extended family?
