Homicide detectives in Tobago are investigating the killing of two teenage boys whose bodies were discovered shortly before midday yesterday in the French Fort, Scarborough, area.
One of the teens has been identified as 16-year-old Kolen Salandy of Patience Hill in North West Tobago while the other, believed to be 15 years old, remained unidentified up to press time.
Both bodies, found not far from each other, were battered and bore marks of violence to the neck and throat, and both were found with their underpants and trousers pulled down to their knees.
Salandy’s body was discovered by members of a religious group who had gone to the area to pray. The other body was, however, discovered by the police while they were carrying out investigations into Salandy’s death.
District Medical Officer of Health Dr Mentor Melville said there were no clear-cut wounds on the victims that could indicate a cause of death, He said it appeared that the boys were killed elsewhere and their bodies dumped at the fort. After pronouncing the boys dead, Mentor ordered the bodies removed to the Scarborough Mortuary.
According to police reports, Salandy attended a party at the Esplanade in Scarborough on Friday night and was last seen getting into a car to go home. When his parents discovered he had not gotten home, they made a report at the Scarborough Police Station yesterday morning. Salandy had recently completed his CXC exams and was about to start UWI A-Level classes in Tobago.
A cellular phone was found on the body of the unidentified teenager. Police officials said a trace would be done to try and identify this boy.
The Scarborough Homicide Bureau is continuing investigations. Officers are asking members of the public who may know of a young, teenage boy who is missing to please contact Scarborough CID at 639-2515 or the Homicide Bureau at 639-1649.
