Two gunned down in PoS
One day after gangs sign 'peace treaty'...

’THE only peace is rest in peace!’

These were the words uttered by the mother of Travis ’Wet Money’ Breedy yesterday, as his lifeless body lay face-up mere inches away from a drain on George Street, Port of Spain, one day after warring gangs signed a ’peace treaty’.

Breedy, 29, of Duncan Street, Port of Spain, who also went by the name ’Ako’, is believed to have been one of the men who signed the ’treaty’ with rivals among gangs from Nelson, George and Duncan Streets gangs, the day before his death.

According to reports, Breedy and another man Garnett ’Bago’ Lake were walking along George Street, near Eastern Boys’ RC, around 8.10 a.m., when gunmen approached them from the nearby Plannings. Breedy was shot and ran across the road, where he fell and died; while Lake, 28, of Bagatelle Road, Diego Martin, ran a short distance away, collapsing on the corner of Prince and George Streets.

Officers of the Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) and the Repeat Offenders Programme (ROPE) arrived on the scene within minutes and took Lake to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where he died undergoing treatment.

A third man, Curt Raymond, of Mon Repos, Morvant, who was riding his bicycle along George Street, was also shot by the gunmen and was taken to hospital, where he was treated and warded.

Speaking with the media at the scene, Grace Breedy, mother of Travis Breedy, said she spoke to her son on numerous occasions about the company he kept.

’I not lying, I is he mother, I try to talk to him 24/0 and he ain’t listen. When I say, ’Travis don’t do this,’ he would just smile and say, ’Okay, mammy,’’ Breedy said, as she tried to ease her pain with a cold beer. Breedy added that her son liked to follow bad company and it was this company that ’have him lying down dey’.

As tears began filling her eyes, Breedy said all she could do now is bury her only child, as she reminisced that the last time she spoke to her son was the day before he died, only to receive a call telling her of his death yesterday morning.

Breedy, who was a father of three-two sons, Shakeem, eight, Hassani, two, and a one-year-old daughter, Afeisha-was described as ’harden’ by the mother of his first child, Tammy Millar. ’He was a cool, normal one. I don’t know him to be in any badness, I know he harden,’ Millar said.

As Breedy’s bullet-riddled body lay on the ground, residents of the George Street area could not help but condemn National Security Minister Martin Joseph. The residents claimed that the murder toll always increases the minute ’he (Joseph) open he mouth’.

In the budget debate on Tuesday, Joseph ensured that the toll would not pass last year’s record of 550 murders.

Breedy’s and Lake’s killings, and those of three others that took place between Wednesday night and yesterday, elevated the murder toll to 394.

Officers from the IATF, the Special Anti-Crime Unit of Trinidad and Tobago (SAUTT) and the Homicide Bureau visited the scene. Officers attached to SAUTT are leading the investigations.

In an unrelated matter, 41-year-old Garth John was found stabbed to death in his East Grove, Curepe, home in the early-morning hours yesterday.

John, a paralegal employed with Clico, is believed to have known his killer, according to police, as there were no signs of a break-in. He was discovered by the police around 12.30 a.m. yesterday morning, after neighbours saw a strange man driving John’s car out of the area. Nothing else was missing from the home.

Officers attached to Homicide Bureau Region Two, based at the Arouca Police Station, are investigating the matter.

How do gangs sign a peace treaty. That is the funniest thing ever. The police can't catch criminals but are asking the same criminals to come into their hands and sign papers. What a joke that government of trinidad and tobago. I am sure the whole world laughs at it.

Two gunned down and many more to join. Do not blame the minister. He is home while the lawless are roaming looking for evil instead of using that energy constructively. The time young folks putting into doing wrong they can put it into doing right. Educate yourself.

I think it is only waring countries sign peace treaties, imagine gangsters signing peace treaties, they should all be shot on sight or thrown in jail, they are the scourge of the country, why are they bein given recognition, it should be a crime to form a gang . And much worse be in one, because there is never any good that come from being in a gang, they are all a bunch of thugs.CT USA

Fort Apache the Bronx!!! No "Fort Apache Trinidad".And the MADNESS continues. How long sahll be subjected to this seemlessly never ending wave of lawless.Do those who have been mandatted to protect us have a solution or are they part of the problem? It's no longer Sweet T&T but T&T River of Tears.Mother T&T your sons are being slaughtered in the streets, their blood flows into the drains, like waste water, lives cut short in the prime of their youth.Mothers your cries are heard, your tears are seen,he was a good boy, where did he go wrong?Did you fail him?Did your government fail him,did we as a nation fail him?what is going on now did not happen over night,it's the result of culture that was left to to grow, signs were ignored,It can't happen here!!!This is sweet T&T.Rum,Roti,Politics and Party was our moto. But alas now we reap the benifits of our arrogance and pay the price im "BLOOD".So what, we may reach 600 murders, but soon it's gonna Carnival time again and elections not far away also. May god help the law abiding and praying citizens of this our nation.

Two words that have become synonymous with "Murders" in T&T are "Gunned Down" the only difference is the number that is attached to those two words. The beat simply goes on.......!

What else is new?The world can't compete with us when it comes to murder per capita.Everbody,is going to get on board with this issue. We are going to hear all kinds of lamentations repeated over and over. The Express should make a template and just put the press on auto.

I understand that parents nowadays want a better life for their children. They don't have the resources, they may be a single parent etc. They don't want their children to have a hard life, and so by making things easy the children don't realize the seriousness of life. They take things for granted and get themselves into trouble and trouble with the law. Once that happens, it is if their lives are over. So the parents have to learn from what is happening and sit down and talk with their children from age 5, encouraging them not to take these bad paths no matter what. ac,md

Exactly what is the so called Security Mininsters job in this country ? What exactly is being paid so hansomely to do? Its cant be National Security. There isnt any national security on this island, just ask the 394 dead people and the hundreds robbed beaten raped or kiddnapped. The biggest criminals on this island are the ones who get paid to do a damn job and are to stupid or incompetent to do it .
