Three men, believed to be involved in a string of robberies in Central Trinidad, escaped from the Chaguanas Police Station on Saturday. One of the men was recaptured hours later and a manhunt has been launched for the others, police said yesterday.
The men were among 12 people held during a police raid at the weekend.
Police said the men were being held in the station’s charge room when the three broke open a lock to the room they were being held in and ran out the building. The incident happened around 6 p.m.
Police believe the men used a piece of steel to break open the padlock.
Around midnight, officers held one of the suspects along Railway Road, Chaguanas. The man, of Arena Road, Freeport, was again taken into police custody.
The two others - suspects in a string of robberies in the Cunupia area and the other in a series of car thefts at Saith Park, Chaguanas - were not found up to late yesterday.
Chaguanas police are continuing investigations.
