Cops kill man in San Juan shootout

A man identified only as ’Aki-boy’ died after a shootout with the police early yesterday morning.

According to police reports, the drama began around 7.30 p.m. on Saturday after police officer, PC Kenny, of the San Juan Police Station, was about to make his way to his vehicle.

Kenny, police said, lost his footing, fell and hit his head as he was about to enter his vehicle. The officer, who at the time was in civilian wear, his colleagues believe, ’blacked out’ when he hit the ground. When he regained consciousness, PC Kenny realised his service weapon was missing and notified his colleagues.

A hunt for a suspect was conducted by officers of the Barataria CID and Task Force. Around 1 a.m. yesterday, officers confronted ’Aki-boy’ at Nicholasville, San Juan.

The suspect, police said, began shooting at the officers, who fired back. The suspect was wounded in the exchange on gunfire and was rushed to the Eric Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Officers say they also recovered PC Kenny’s firearm.

Officers from the San Juan Police Station are continuing investigations.

Although I'm usually elated, whenever I read about the police taking out yet another one of the many criminals, who seem to be steadily coming out of the woodwork one after another, I find this story about officer Kenny, effectively losing his footing as he attempted to enter his vehicle and subsequently blacking out upon hitting the ground, somehow, all too convenient an explanation for how his weapon might have ultimately come into the possession of this individual, who is now dead and so, unfortunately, cannot give his own account of the story. Now, we could never know for sure, what the truth is, behind this episode. But hey, the gun was recovered. Right?

I'm darn fed up with u goody too Shoes and 'ur comments. When a bandit is snuffed out by the police,no matter what!they will never win. Some of us are hell bent on blaming them for the criminal death. These officers have families too and i'ld rather they kill the bandits than officers be killed.
Is this Martin Joseph's plan? Posted: 2009-09-28 05:35:00 AM
I keep wondering if this is not another 'extra-judicial' killing. I do hope not. The limited statistics I have do not support that "hope not."

Call it what you want, the police should start handling petty thieves like this, so they do not come out again, after 3 months, and re-commit more crimes.

anyone else thinks this story sounds fishy...or is it just me...huh!
Re: Cops kill man in San Juan shootout Posted: 2009-09-28 2:32:00 PM
There is nothing fishy, when the criminal involved here, swims with piranhas, thanks to the police, and I am sure they have intelligence on this criminal, our streets are slightly safer today
Next time lie better Posted: 2009-09-28 02:10:00 AM
Yeah sure, sounds like a made up story just to kill dude. I'm not complaining if he was a roach, but that story is lame.
Re: Next time lie better Posted: 2009-09-28 10:30:00 AM
Better lame, than being the next victim at the hands of a criminal like him, who is known as such to the community
Re: Next time lie better Posted: 2009-09-28 4:04:00 PM
You should support the police over this questionable character. I live in San Juan for many, many years, and I never had a thief in my yard, until recently. Kudos to the San Juan police, there is many, many more out there like him, go get 'em
Vague Posted: 2009-09-28 06:36:00 AM
This incident sounds very vague and slightly shady to be honest
Re: Vague Posted: 2009-09-28 11:51:00 AM
Before you thank the police for getting that well known slime off the streets, you calling it "slightly shady," no wonder there is so much crime in Trinidad today

Note To Aki-Boy.....poor judgement Posted: 2009-09-28 09:45:00 AM
It was your Civic duty to render assistance to a fellow human being in distress. You took it upon yourself to use the opportunity to help yourself to a weapon used by a Police officer, bought by tax payers. One can only imagine the irony in all this because I am 100% sure you would have used that said weapon on an innocent Citizen, probably a hard working tax payer who paid for the weapon in the first place. Your quick and unscrupulous action by your own hands earned you the right to a quick and untimely death. Greetings to the Devil when you meet him, I have no sympathy for your kind. Let that be a lesson to those who think they can come upon a bad situation, and instead of making it better use it as an advantage for ill begotten means. What a waste of life. Lloyd C. That story these police saying I think I made up a story just like that when I was six years old I foget for what reason it was for,or you know what I think I read it in some story book when I was smaller..
Re: smells <><>like a set upp Posted: 2009-09-28 2:30:00 PM
You and you and you,can think what the hell you like or what it smells like. It's time we stop writing so much negatives about the police. There are plenty innocent and honest ones out here trying to proect all of you. We're not all bad or in any kind of underhand business. Sometimes when we read stories like this, one start asking oneself questions. We've families too.
cops kill man in shoot out Posted: 2009-09-28 09:02:00 AM
why do you need to conduct an investigation if the missing firearm was recovered? if that is the case then the right crook got what he deserved. move on to the next and stop wasting time and resources.
Funny Story. Posted: 2009-09-28 09:29:00 AM
Something weird about this story, because I need to know where this officers car was parked, because no one but a criminal see him fall and black-out, then proceed to rob him of only his service revolver and not his wallet, yet a few hours they happen to find the exact perp who use this same alleged gun. Are we all so bamboozed by the crime problem that we are willing to eat up any story and pass judgment without getting the whole facts firsts, just like we did when the story about the cop who's wife was alleged to be kidnapped and Murdered in Grande a few weeks ago.I still have a bad taste in my mouth about the Police having evidence and setting people up.
Re: Funny Story. Posted: 2009-09-28 3:49:00 PM
So what's wrong with that, you have to play dirty with criminals, or else they will come into your yard, and steal your car stereo while you sleeping
well done Posted: 2009-09-28 10:40:00 AM
I will like to commend the Police for their speedy and dilligent work in getting the gun which ended up in the hands of this young man. I'am sure he was not going to return it so the officers probably save many lives

It is a proud day for our community, and we are even more proud of our men and women in the police uniforms, who permanently removed that human scum from our society
Cops kills man in San Juan Posted: 2009-09-28 10:42:00 AM
What is with you people, wheather it a made up story or not the Cops did their job. These criminals have to be stoped, you think he took the gun from the cop to return it, some innocent hardworking would have been robed and killed maybe more than one, so I say one more killer of the streets.
