IRONY struck on Friday afternoon when a Chinese national was knocked down moments after he stabbed and killed an Indonesian national.
Dead are Chinese national Lee Hong Feng, 42, and an Indonesian national identified only as Wluyn. According to police reports, both men got into a heated argument aboard the dry-docked fishing trawler Ocean Apun around 3 p.m. on Friday. The trawler is housed at Peake’s dockyard at Chaguaramas.
The reports stated the two men were arguing aboard the boat when Hong Feng stabbed Wluyn. Hong Feng then fled the crime scene with a gang of men chasing him. His dash to escape caused him to run in the path of an unmarked police vehicle driven by an undercover police officer.
After being hit by the car, Hong Feng was said to have been beaten about his body by the crowbar-wielding gang as he lay on the Western Main Road, Chaguaramas.
When the officer came out of the car and announced ’police’, the gang is said to have raced back on the ship. However, four men were held and are currently assisting police with their investigations.
Hong Feng was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital by Coast Guard Ambulance where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Wluyn was taken to the Adventist Hospital, Cocorite, where he, too, was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police are uncertain whether the beating killed Hong Feng or the impact of the car. An autopsy is expected to be performed to determine the actual cause of death.
In an unrelated incident, a 29-year-old man became the country’s 411th murder victim after he was stabbed to death early yesterday morning.
Kirt Blake, originally of Maloney, is said to have been liming with friends at a bar in Bacca Road, Boissiere Village, Maraval, around 2 a.m. when he got into an argument with some men. Police said Blake was stabbed three times, twice in the back and once in the chest. Blake is said to have run a short distance before collapsing. He died on the scene.
Homicide officers and Western Division Police are continuing investigations in all three deaths.
