Man hiding fugitive friends shot dead

A MAN who allowed two of his friends to hide out at his Eastern Quarry, Laventille, home was shot dead in his yard yesterday, police said.

The two men who he offered protection were also shot at the hideout, and up to presstime were both listed in a critical condition at hospital, police said.

Dead is 38-year-old Clevin Lashley while the two injured men remained unidentified up to presstime.

According to police reports, around 12.30 p.m. yesterday Lashley and his two friends were at his Eastern Quarry home when a gunman entered.

The gunman opened fire and all three men were shot. Lashley died on the spot with two gunshot wounds to his back, police said.

His two unidentified friends from Arima were rushed to the Port of Spain General Hospital by officers of the Besson Street Police Station who arrived on the scene within minutes of the shooting.

Lashley was said to have lived at the Eastern Quarry Road home with his girlfriend before offering a safe haven to the two men.

Lashley served some three years in jail and was the brother of a murder victim, police said.

Lashley’s killing is the 414th murder for the year, according to an Express count.
