Mark: Who's looking out for the people?

TIMEOUT IN SENATE: Opposition Senator Wade Mark chats with his fellow senators during yesterday's sitting of the Upper House. From right are Sharon Gopaul-McNicol and Lyndira Oudit. -Photo: STEPHEN DOOBAY

If Attorney General John Jeremie had any self-respect, any decency-given what he told the Parliament last Thursday (that there was an understanding that UDeCOTT would not seek to stay of the proceedings of the Commission of Enquiry), if there was any element of truth to it, he would have done the decent thing and resign, Opposition Senator Wade Mark said yesterday.

He was speaking to reporters during the Senate tea break.

Mark said UDeCOTT holding a press conference as it did yesterday, to say that there is no corruption, that the board is not resigning, and that it received no directives from the Corporation Sole, was not surprising.

’If the Prime Minister is backing the entire board, what do you expect? It is the Prime Minister who has to take action against UDeCOTT and clearly he is not doing it and that is why they could behave that way. And clearly this is why the Attorney General could have come in this Parliament and make a statement and then his jack was completely hung by the Prime Minister. That is why I believe that he (Jeremie) ought to have tendered his resignation. Unless the Attorney General is part and parcel of the game plan to mamaguy this country, so when he came here on Thursday, he was part of a pappyshow’.

On UDeCOTT’s statements that it was the Commission’s attorneys who wanted the matter adjourned for four months, Mark said he wanted to know who was looking after the interest of the population in this whole affair. He said Uff Commissioners have their own attorneys, as do UDeCOTT.

’But who is looking after the welfare of the population? And that is the big question because certainly the Government is not doing it, the Prime Minister is not, the Attorney General is not and therefore it is left up to civil society to put pressure on the Government to take action on UDeCOTT,’ he said.

'Mark' Who is Looking After The Pple! Posted: 2009-10-05 11:56:00 PM
You're right in asking this question? It seems to us that the pple we chose to run the country, have more interest in UDeCOTT affairs than country and Pple and we are wondering WHY? Could and Would the gov't tell us please? OAP'S
The People Posted: 2009-10-06 05:27:00 AM
Mark is ABSOLUTELY correct, when he ask; who is looking after the welfare of the population? We have nasty politics in the US, with check and balances, but T&T politics is below nasty and has no checks and balances, so the people follow by example. Trini, US

My simple observation on this issue is Mr. Manning is giving the caymans enough time to digest their catch and move to new feeding grounds. So when the hunters are ready to execute these caymns, they are no longer there.
OK..I believe the ship is out of the harbor, lets ride!! Posted: 2009-10-06 07:42:00 AM
Well said Mr. Mark instead of the usual tirade of vacant charges. There is hope after all. I'll smile again. Just Thinking. Pete-Boston

Good question, the opposition should be the checks and balance but they are too busy looking for themselves.
