A SOLDIER with four years service in the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force appeared in court yesterday on five charges, including beating a teenager and resisting arrest.
He was sent to prison last evening after being denied bail.
Dahale Green, 22, of Marabella, pleaded not guilty to the charges that he assaulted a 19-year-old by beating and damaging her $90 pair of black tights.
It was also alleged that he resisted police constable Marash, used obscene language and behaved in a disorderly manner.
The charges stemmed from an alleged argument at Kojo’s Bar on Southern Main Road, Marabella, at around 1.30 a.m. yesterday. Charges were laid by Marash.
The matter was heard before Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando First Magistrates’ Court.
Green, who is based at Camp La Romaine, was unrepresented.
It could not be ascertained whether he has a criminal record, as his fingerprints were not given.
’You need to provide fingerprints. If you don’t, no bail,’ Wellington said.
He then remanded Green into custody for tracing and the matter was transferred to the Fourth Court. Green will reappear on Monday.
The chopping death of Carenage resident Colin Babb yesterday, has pushed the murder toll to 417 for the year thus far.
Babb,49, of Mt Pleasant, was found lying face down in a 12-foot boat near the Carenage Fish Market around 9 a.m. He had several chop wounds behind his head.
A team of detectives led by Insp Henry Dann, Sgt Andrew Lawrence and including ag Cpl Gibbons and PCs McCain and Lynch visited the scene. Investigations are continuing. - DR
