THE COURT reappearance yesterday of police constable Sunil Akaloo charged with the recent murder of his wife, was not the media circus like his first appearance. Rather, the matter was simply called, there was a brief discussion about the case being speeded up and it was quickly adjourned.
Akaloo, 39, along with Marlon Lee and David Parris all re-appeared before Sangre Grande Magistrate, Ejenny Espinet, charged with the murder of Bhagmat Seemungal-Akaloo which occurred on September 15.
Yesterday, was the first time that Parris stood alongside Akaloo and Lee.
Parris was arrested on Monday, questioned and charged sometime on Wednesday by Sangre Grande CID detective, Sgt Beverly Paul. He made his court debut on Thursday and was remanded to reappear yesterday.
During the brief court appearance, Lee’s attorney, Kirk Hogan, asked the prosecution to submit a file, noting if this is done, ’the process of this whole thing (preliminary enquiry) can begin’. The police prosecutor informed the court that the said ’file’ was being prepared.
Magistrate Espinet then adjourned the matter to October 16.
Seemungal-Akaloo, 44, was allegedly snatched from her family’s Guaico, Tamana home during the early hours of September 15. Her body was found several hours later at the side of a dirt road off San Louis Road, Sangre Grande. - GG
