Dookeran: T&T watchwords turned into a lie

WE NEED TRUTH: Winston Dookeran

Political Leader of the Congress of the People Winston Dookeran says it is time for the country to discuss changing the national watchwords.

He was speaking at the party’s Divali celebrations at Felicity, Chaguanas.

’I think it is agreeable to say ’Discipline, production and tolerance’ have all turned out to be a lie,’ he said.

’This society is less disciplined today than it has ever been. This society is less productive today than it has ever been and this society is less tolerant today than it has ever been.

’So we have come at the turn of the century with our watchwords falling apart in meaning and practice and with a nation without any sense of future,’ Dookeran said.

Dookeran said it was time for citizens to start building the nation.

’We have got to start building this nation ourselves,’ he said. ’We build it on fundamental truth. Truth as you know is one of the fundamental aspects of Hindu theology. The search for truth, the desire for justice and the hope for freedom, have been the fundamental pillars upon which strong civilisations have been built.’

Dookeran said citizens were not living that type of reality.

’Today we accept false hope especially in our Parliament and we must now replace that with truth,’ he said. ’Today we accept the fact that leaders can destroy our concept of justice and we must make sure that that does not happen.’

He ended by saying the onus lay with citizens to build society on the basis of truth, freedom and justice.

To build a nation that only concentrated on building the upper classes, how pathetic
Nonsense Posted: 2009-10-12 03:55:00 AM
SO because you Mr. Dookeran feel that the nation is not living up to its National watch words, we must change them? SO why don't we change our National Pledge as well, since students disrespect teachers these days? Or why not the National Anthems since , due to pollution, the blue Caribbean sea may not be so blue anymore? What vulgarity, for a man who has done NOTHING to enhance the social landscape of Trinidad and Tobago to announce that our watch words have to be changed. And what is more, you signal out only one religion as standing on a foundation of truth!!! Maybe that is why you wish to have them changed Sir, as you yourself do not see a need to preach a message of tolerance, but of one that you believe is politically expedient. You do not deserve to call yourself a citizen.
diwali pooja Posted: 2009-10-12 05:26:00 AM
Two years Winston Dookeran and Anand Ramlogan were prominently featured in the front page of a leading nespaper doing Diwali pooja in Debe, south T'dad. That was just before the general elections.Question here is,was it a farce or a stint of cheap publicity? I have noticed that diwali has come around twice since then and no more pooja with front page headlines and pictures for them, no more public poojas at all.It plainly shows that they tried to hoodwink the Hindu community with their false beliefs and cheap politics because it was an election year and they became "hindus of convenience?"Dooks need to stick to his own faith and be truthful to the people of T+T and let them them know where his faith lies.

Sorry Mr.Dookerran,For there to be a lie, there have to be liars. We all as citizens are culpable in this to some extent.Do you expect the church to enlighten when they were the destroyers of the people yesterday?Too much hyprocy from leadership.
Well Said Posted: 2009-10-12 10:01:00 AM
Mr. Dookeran needs to be our next leader. He'll put us on the world stage where we should be.
Why bother Dooks? Posted: 2009-10-12 2:23:00 PM
Why do you and people like Jack Warner still give a damn? It is obvious Trinidadians are happy with the status quo and don't want any type of change. At the end of the day you both would have wasted your breath and only to be criticized by those you wish to help.
