A 32-year-old father of two boys was murdered yesterday as he walked out of his girlfriend’s Tunapuna home.
Lowell Lashley, 32, who lived at Second Private Road, Mt D’or, was shot dead around 4.30 a.m., as he left the Tunapuna Road home of his 20-year-old girlfriend.
Police suspect the shooting death was related to a ’soured’ relationship Lashley’s girlfriend was previously involved in.
Lashley, who worked at the Public Transport Service Corporatiion (PTSC) for 13 years, was shot several times at point-blank range.
Police said that residents reported hearing a volley of shots and contacted them.
Officers of the Homicide Bureau, Tunapuna Police Station and Northern Division Task Force arrived on the scene, where they found Lashley bleeding.
He was rushed to hospital, but died upon arrival.
Police said they were following several leads which may lead to the killer.
They believe the killer positioned himself and waited for an opportunity to ambush Lashley.
Police officers said the murder was not related to criminal activity.
Detectives told the Express that investigations were ongoing.
Lashley’s killing pushed the murder toll to 420 for the year thus far, three fewer than last year’s toll around this time.
Speaking with the Express yesterday at their Mt D’or Road home, Lashley’s relatives were still shocked about his death.
Lashley’s brother, Leighton, described him as a ’giving and devoted father, who worked extremely hard to take care of his children’.
Lashley’s children were from a previous relationship.
’Two days ago, I spoke with him when he came home to drop off some clothes. He attended church and always took care of his kids. We had a great relationship, we were not only brothers, but friends as well,’ Leighton said.
Adding that he only received news of his brother’s death around 6 a.m. yesterday, Leighton said relatives remained baffled as to the motive behind his brother’s murder.
Nigel Daniel, a friend who spoke at Lashley’s house, described him as being ’a cool’ person with no problems.
’He was a loving, caring person who always went out of his way to help you. He always provided for his kids and, without a doubt, no one could ever say anything bad about him,’ Daniel said.
Police have questioned several people in connection with the killing.
Investigations are continuing.
