Police suspect 'soured' relationship led to PTSC employee's killing

Police suspect 'soured' relationship led to PTSC employee's killing

A 32-year-old father of two boys was murdered yesterday as he walked out of his girlfriend’s Tunapuna home.

Lowell Lashley, 32, who lived at Second Private Road, Mt D’or, was shot dead around 4.30 a.m., as he left the Tunapuna Road home of his 20-year-old girlfriend.

Police suspect the shooting death was related to a ’soured’ relationship Lashley’s girlfriend was previously involved in.

Lashley, who worked at the Public Transport Service Corporatiion (PTSC) for 13 years, was shot several times at point-blank range.

Police said that residents reported hearing a volley of shots and contacted them.

Officers of the Homicide Bureau, Tunapuna Police Station and Northern Division Task Force arrived on the scene, where they found Lashley bleeding.

He was rushed to hospital, but died upon arrival.

Police said they were following several leads which may lead to the killer.

They believe the killer positioned himself and waited for an opportunity to ambush Lashley.

Police officers said the murder was not related to criminal activity.

Detectives told the Express that investigations were ongoing.

Lashley’s killing pushed the murder toll to 420 for the year thus far, three fewer than last year’s toll around this time.

Speaking with the Express yesterday at their Mt D’or Road home, Lashley’s relatives were still shocked about his death.

Lashley’s brother, Leighton, described him as a ’giving and devoted father, who worked extremely hard to take care of his children’.

Lashley’s children were from a previous relationship.

’Two days ago, I spoke with him when he came home to drop off some clothes. He attended church and always took care of his kids. We had a great relationship, we were not only brothers, but friends as well,’ Leighton said.

Adding that he only received news of his brother’s death around 6 a.m. yesterday, Leighton said relatives remained baffled as to the motive behind his brother’s murder.

Nigel Daniel, a friend who spoke at Lashley’s house, described him as being ’a cool’ person with no problems.

’He was a loving, caring person who always went out of his way to help you. He always provided for his kids and, without a doubt, no one could ever say anything bad about him,’ Daniel said.

Police have questioned several people in connection with the killing.

Investigations are continuing.

Why the comparison with last year statistics? Posted: 2009-10-11 9:47:00 PM
I never quite understand the comparison with last year's statistic. How would that help anyone especially the family of this man. What can anyone say to his children. The real victims are his children. He gone, but they have to bear the pain.... An unimaginable pain.
OK, WE SAFE Posted: 2009-10-12 00:05:00 AM
So, the murder rate is three less that the same time next year...crime is under control. No need to feat T&T. I am again wondering how the criminals can get guns with all the tough gun laws in Trinidad. Right, those laws are only for law abiding citizens. p.s.: Murder is a criminal activity.

Although you might never be too certain about that, you have to know who you were dealing with. Take ah break relax. It is so sad that this man's life was ended because of some idiot. How much longer will this Gov't under Manning watch sit on their backsides and allow these murders to go on? In spite of all the $$ they are spending on crime it's just getting worse.Every day you read the papers it's the same story. We are saddened to see the way our country has deterioated over the past few years.Manning it's time you start listening to us.We are scared to even leave our homes.Bring back the cat and the hang man's noose. Start locking down dawn to dusk.Let the army and police carry out searches. Pple we have to help the police get these killers off our streets. We want our country back from the hands of those criminals Please. OAP's

Re: Lover Gunned Down Posted: 2009-10-12 2:15:00 PM
First, condolences to the family of victim. May he rest in peace. Now, to the people continually blaming the Government, when we start blaming the people, and stop blaming the Government, is only then we shall see change. Not to say the Government does not have a responsibility to take measures against the guns, etc, brought into the country, but the people are the ones killing each other. In this case, one can truly say the Government have nothing to do with spurned lovers. This has been going on this the dawn of Trini time. It is usually the women that would get killed though. Start blaming the people. The government is not pulling the triggers, the people are. Who are the ones that are raising the criminals? The people. Once a proud Trini.

Finally an intelligent comment. But it is all for naught as it will fall on deaf ears. All these whiners here know how to do is point the fingers at everyone but themselves. Their mantra is, no matter what, blame the government. A fool gets jealous and kill his girlfriend, blame the government. A clown drinks too much and gets behind the wheel of his car and kills himself or someone else, blame the government. A man commits murder/suicide, blame the government. And on an on an on, the same pathetic story every day from these whining do-nothings. Wah, wah, wah. They will do anything other than look at the real story and examine the foolishness taking place in their own lives. So you're wasting your time. But again, thanks for the intelligent comment.
Re: Lover Gunned Down Posted: 2009-10-12 3:16:00 PM
Pple are simply saying to the gov't listen to what they are saying.Yes the Gov't is darn well responsible as had they listened to us when we were make suggestions,we were totally ignored. They were wasting money and trying whatever the outside world suggested. We always got a cock & bull story. You should know wrong or right, the man at the top will always be the one to take the blame. So yes! he is your Prime Minister and this is his watch, so whatever goes wrong he has to take the wrap.

Lover gunned down Posted: 2009-10-12 4:40:00 PM
What would a state of emergency do? Think people think. The state of emergency if any should be from within each of us. Report your brother, sister, father or mother who has an illegal firearm. Report relatives who you know are hitmen. How? Yuh mad or what? Me eh reporting nuttin next ting yuh hear me dead.
Re: Lover gunned down Posted: 2009-10-12 11:33:00 AM
It simply mean you cannot go out and you will be locked down.Do house to house search more so in the areas and amid the pple well known and wanted by the police.Nothing mad about snitching your own. You cannoth bring your child up and be afraid of him or her. If you allow this to happen well!Well!you did not bring 'ur child up in the right way. I'm a pensionr now and is still afraid of my father. I'll never stand up face to face with him and be rude or disrespectful. That's the difference with the parenting today.Blame no one but yourselves 4 the murderers we are now bring up.
