Thieves rob poultry businessman of $130,000

Thieves escaped with $130,000 in cash and jewelry during a break-in at a poultry business in San Fernando Sunday night.

Businessman Edward Indar said he lost the cash and about $100,000 in jewelry after the break- in. The electronic items were left behind.

’They stole my wedding band and even the diamond ring my mother gave me before she died,’ he told the Express yesterday. The money was from his weekend sales and was taken from an office adjacent to the depots.

Indar said he secured his businessplace around 7 p.m. on Sunday and returned 6 a.m. yesterday to find the burglar-proofing cut and the items missing. He was at his Penal home at the time of the robbery. The depots are located at Duncan Village, San Fernando.

Indar said there was an increase in crime in the area with other businessplaces being robbed.

Police officers, including fingerprinting experts, visited Indar’s businessplaces yesterday.

Being a businessperson in trinidad is risky business. They are either robbed or murdered. What a shame! It's obvious that these bandits, thieves whatever they are have not gone to high school or university or they will understand the impact their actions are having on us the people as well as the economy...M

Were cameras installed? He should have taken the money to the bank at the end of the day wearing a money belt. He should also have a safe for his valuables.

What fool will leave $100,000.00 worth of jewelry in some office. With the amount of crime in TnT this man is bigger than a fool....The banks have safety deposit boxes for storage. But you like to be flashy and show off or what???? People have a right to be protected by police but being stupid make it easy for bandits and more difficult for police to solve crime. Trini lover

Excuse me!!! How could you call the man a fool. Some people don't really believe in investing in a safe. They live more or less a simple country life. I know alot of people who save their money under their mattresses still. This is just the culture of some people. I guess we just have to say businessmen must be extremely careful. Its drawing closer to Christmas and I think everyone should take precaution.
