4 more deaths under probe

Four more suspected H1N1 deaths are being investigated by the Caribbean Epidemiology Centre (CAREC).

The Express understands that the four victims are also from the San Fernando area, and their points of contact with medical personnel were the Princes Town and Barrackpore Health Centres, the same centres from which the two confirmed H1N1 deaths were referred to the San Fernando General Hospital.

Laboratory tests to determine whether the patients indeed died from the H1N1 virus are expected to be available within 24 hours. Sources close to the investigation yesterday registered grave concern.

’These four deaths are likely to be attributable to H1N1, but in the event that it is not H1N1, then what the hell is it? Also, it is evident that there are many more cases of H1N1 infection in Trinidad than are being diagnosed; this is a dangerous situation.’

The source recommended a ’case investigation’ to determine why the severe cases that result in death are emanating from San Fernando.

’Why this community? Why is this so? This should be investigated,’ the source said.
