Officers kill 'well-known gunman' in shoot-out

POLICE shot and killed a thirty-two-year-old man yesterday afternoon after he attempted to shoot his way out of being arrested.

The man, identified as Jerome Gill, was wanted for two murders committed within the last two years, officers said.

Detectives described Gill as a ’well-known gunman’ whom they had been trying to question for some time.

One of his victims was said to be another Long Circular resident, Rodney Joseph, who was shot dead in May this year. Officers also wanted to question him in connection with several other recent killings as well as a robbery.

Around 5.30 p.m., a contingent of officers went to the hills of Dibe, Long Circular, after receiving information that Gill was seen in the area.

According to police, they spotted him near his home. Police said Gill drew a pistol and fired at officers. Officers fired back, hitting him several times about the body, investigators said.

Gill was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said. -GG
