Ganga: Nothing less than victory

Trinidad and Tobago skipper Daren Ganga has his eyes set on nothing less than victory in today’s Champions League Twenty/20 final against Australian champions New South Wales Blues in Hyderabad, India.

’We are not just content with this win and tonight (last night) we will be pretty chilled out. We had set ourselves goals and we have won five games, five virtual finals, tomorrow (today) will be the sixth and once we successfully complete that, then the Carnival will start,’ Ganga said at yesterday’s post-match presentation when he urged his players to remain vigilant until the last ball is bowled today.

T&T trounced South African champions Cape Cobras by seven wickets in yesterday’s semi-final, after chasing a target of 176 to book a place in today’s final at the same ground from 10.30 a.m. (T&T time).

’We are very happy to get to the final and tomorrow’s game is another important one,’ said Ganga, who scored an undefeated 44 in an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 93 with West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who scored 58 not out.

Ganga also praised his team’s performance, their fifth straight win after entering the competition as 22/1 outsiders for the title. T&T are now 6/5 to win while the Blues are 4/6 odds on favourites.

Of the game yesterday, Ganga said: ’At the toss I believed it would be easy enough for us to chase a target of 170-180. We were quite comfortable with that because we knew the nature of this surface and I think the guys did a fantastic job to pull the Cape Cobras back and shut them out for 175.

’We always knew that we had the game in our hands once we batted well at the top and William Perkins and Adrian Barath did a fantastic job, so it was easy for myself and Dwayne (Bravo). I thought Dwayne played a fantastic innings and congratulations to him.

’We had confidence that we had guys at the back like Kieron Pollard, Navin Stewart, Denesh Ramdin, all these guys at the back that can deliver the goods so it gave us a lot of confidence to play freely and in the end we came out on top.’
