THE PLIGHT of sick children across the country continues to drive the non- governmental organisation Hispanic Women in Trinidad and Tobago and its Hope of a Miracle Foundation into helping those children who seek financial assistance for treatment abroad.
In a press release, Dianny Hernandez, president of the Hispanic Women in Trinidad and Tobago, said the NGO was able to raise US$42,000, to assist three children who needed medical attention in the United States.
Hannah Bhagwandeen, Omari Harper and Karine Rampersad were all given the chance to live a normal healthy life with the assistance of the organisation.
Little Hannah previously had a liver transplant done at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, where doctors also found out that she had a hearing problem. For this reason she was required to do a test in order to have the problem corrected. Hernandez said, Hannah’s mother, Thalia Bhagwandeen, wrote a letter of appreciation to the organisation, stating that payment at the Johns Hopkins Hospital has been approved, and Hannah was able to have the test done.
Harper needed a second surgery at the Jackson Memorial Hospital in the United States. On both occasions he received a donation from the Hispanic Women in Trinidad and Tobago. His second operation is scheduled to take place on November 2, the release said.
Rampersad will be leaving Trinidad and Tobago today for her cardiac cauterisation and possibly her second surgery.
The release said, ’The Hispanic Women in Trinidad and Tobago would continue to help sick Trinbagonian children with their medical surgeries. This is done through donations from corporate sponsors: Nestle, bptt, Atlantic LNG, Bouygues Batiment. Also the general public through fundraisers, families and friends of the children.’
