'Let's put our differences aside'

Congress of the People member Robert Mayers came to preach the gospel of unity to the UNC Congress at Rienzi Complex, in Couva yesterday.

’Let us put aside our differences of race, religion, colour, et cetera and find a common ground on higher ground,’ he said. Every time he mentioned the issue of unity of the opposition forces, Mayers was lustily applauded by UNC members.

’When we establish a common ground and have dialogue, then the journey can begin for a better Trinidad and Tobago,’ he said.

He stressed that it was ’morally and ethically compelling that we come together and find a platform of common interest and begin meaningful discussions. Stating that no man was an island, Mayers said: ’The higher ground of brotherhood is the way forward.’

At the meeting, the UNC passed resolutions on UDeCOTT, on the crime wave, constitutional reform, property tax, the President’s failure to appoint an Integrity Commission and UNC internal elections.

"No man is an island", says Mayers and Panday has heard it before. Does Panday really want unity? There are contingencies to unity. There are sacrifices to unity. Is Panday listening to the cries of the people? Is he a true patriot? Panday must make a positive step for T&T to make that positive step. Panday was a great man in his time but an obstacle in this.
The only time we will see unity is if PRAKASH is made the leader of all the opposition forces. Posted: 2009-10-26 08:49:00 AM
Make Prakesh the leader of all the opposition forces and only then we will see unity and the PNM coming clean.
Prakash not qualified to be leader; Assam is. Posted: 2009-10-26 12:08:00 AM
Those who are calling for Prakash to be made leader need to do some rethinking. This is a man who has never been elected to parliament, never held elected office in any capacity, has no parliamentary or ministerial experience yet he should be prime minister in waiting? I agree that Dookeran is a waste of time but we will need someone with governmental experience at the helm. My suggestion is Mervin Assam.

How many people has heard of Mervin Assam? Many have heard about Kamla Persad-Bissessar. She was Panday's back-up when he was PM so people give this a thought.
LETS PUT OUR DIFFERENCES ASIDE Posted: 2009-10-26 3:51:00 PM
Always remember united we stand , divided we fall . Dont forget the results of the last election and the reason behind it. We cant wait for the bell to ring to panic so i say dont forget the ramjac trio with Mr. Maharaj and the failure of team unity, if he was determined he would have continue with his party and build it and not skip and jump into UNC once again claiming he have a tabanca. he is just an opportunist. What will lhappen when jack money runs out. Think about what Jack did besides flashing big money. We J do hope the COP unite for all the right reason and not running behind ramjack because they are popular because they will be going against the values that they preach .BE CAREFUL COP.
