A gun certainly puts a period to a family argument, ent? what an example for the ordinary people to follow.If there was no gun, do you suppose the son would have killed the father? Could not the police officer use his training and experience to handle the situation differently? Reaching for a gun is the easiest, deadliest solution when other methods would have worked, if there was no gun. How very sad. Now he would lose a son and a job, for who can trust him to be level headed after this? |

A mother looses a son, a wife a husband, children a father. When a father has to put down his own son it's not good. When a thirty year old man calling himself a son, raises his hand against his father, especially in a drug related circumstance is not a good thing. I feel sorry for the entire family and I hope in the end they can find solace...he that is sinless cast the first stone. This is not an easy one, which ever presiding Judge/Magistrate that will handle this one will need to pray for divine inspiration and intervention before they tackle this case....Lloyd C. What a tragedy for this family. A son is dead because a father tried to save him from drug abuse, they argue and fight, and somehow father shoots son or the son shoots the father.It has happened before. This is how singer Marvin Gaye died. Drugs and guns are weapons of mass destruction in my eyes. |

This is a family tragedy. No Father and son ought to get themselves involved in a fist fight against each other. As this case illustrates, it can escalate into something far worse. |

Yet another member of the police force takes justice into his own hands. He'll be smuggled in/out of the court and receive special treatment because "he is ah police". Ultimately he will still be "ah police" when this is all done. And you wonder why crime is everywhere and people don't trust the police! |

This is certainly not the time to make a comment like this.It's already a difficult time for the family and we really do'nt know what happened. We hope they can come to term with their loss and find peace within. |

What a tragedy! This can happen to many of us. We grow up one way trying to follow the right road, our children doing something else. How frustrating for the cop to know, see that his son is dealing with drugs which can only lead him to the jail or the cemetery. I am sorry for both because once you start the drugs it is difficult to stop. You have to get mental health help. The father is so frustrated that he got into an argument with an 'insane' man. The son lost his life, and now the father is about to lose his- two losses! Very sad indeed. Prayers, professional help was the way to go. ac,md |

This seems like the classic case of 'cut off your nose to save your face". REALLY? The father is upset about the son's drug use and his 'rational' response is to draw his weapon and fire?? Are our officers given mental screenings? It aches me to say this but if he could pull the trigger on his own son then he has no right being on patrol in the general public. It's a risk.. This is very sad. The police officer probably lost his son way before to drug addiction. I wish my people could find love in there hearts and turn away from all the negatives in this world. Time to wake up!!!!! Find your true self worth and place in the world. |

Did he have to kill his son was there a better way in which to deal with the problem. As a corporal in the police force u will think he will deal with the situation in a better way.His son was my friend and its really hurts. |

This is tragic, but not expected due to violence that has permeated T&T. As the old saying goes if you play with dogs you get bitten by fleas. As a police officer you deal with violence that surrounds you sooner or later your judgment becomes skewed aaand unfortunately this can be the result.

I too got into an argument with my son for the same reasons. He became verbally and physically abusive, spat in my face and shoved me amoung other things. I was thinking of getting on object to protect myself but he knocked me unconcious before I could react, which undoubtedly saved his life and my freedom. Drugs can turn these kids into evil crazy fiends, and until you experience it, do not criticize the dad. This outcome has nothing to do with the dad being a cop or feeling "powerful". Being a good father is a thankless job. |

No responsible caring parent wants to see his or her child doing drugs and ruining his/her life.I know the scene.He probably tried to talk to this young man for the umpteenth time and they started arguing.I don't know who reached for the gun first but I could see this coming out the way it did. Maybe the son threatened him and he just tried to scare him, who knows. Many parents tell a hard-headed child "Look I brought you in this world and I'll take you out or send you back". But God knows that 99.9 percent of the time we don't mean that. We just want a better life for our children than the one we had. I feel that this father's greatest punishment started the minute that gun went off. He'll need a whole lot of therapy to live with knowing that he accidentally killed his son.How will he face the mother and maybe his other children? This is hard. RIP son. |
