Broken bottle killed schoolboy

THE SHARP edge of a broken bottle caused the death of 15-year-old Darrion Callender.

Callender, of Freeport was killed following the BGT&T Secondary Schools Football at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella on Friday. He had attended the Big 5 school InterCol final between his school Carapichaima High School and Presentation College, San Fernando.

He was beaten about the body by a student. But it was a stab wound that killed the third form pupil.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Education issued a media release mourning Callender’s death.

’The manner of Darrion’s death is disturbing and regrettable particularly in light of the ongoing programmes and initiatives undertaken by the Ministry at all levels of the school system with regard to the curriculum, discipline and anger management,’ the release stated.

Police officers detained several pupils for questioning following the incident and yesterday a teenager from a secondary school in Debe was still assisting the officers.

What is going on in these high school? Are we breeding criminals in shools now? Too many of your youths is losing thier life over nothing. Its good to a fan but killing each other over a sport event is nonsense. The bad part is these guys doing the killing isnt players. These fans it taking it too far. Airborne Trini
DEATH OF A SCHOOL CHILD Posted: 2009-10-27 06:24:00 AM
What is the schools coming to bring back the days when teachers were allowed to discipline the students, we got it and we turned out well, today the children have to many privileges and the parents get down on the teachers for disiplining the children in schools, these kids are in Trinidad not the USA, Minister of Education make some rules don't let our children go astray any more they are only huring the innocent ones. Wake up people look out for our children, lets go back to the good ole days when kids were disiplined at school dare not go home and tell the parent because there will be some more for them. Parents let the teachers teach and discipline your children so they can be better youths of tomorrow. Trini in NY
Murdered student Posted: 2009-10-27 07:41:00 AM
Now hear this parents and people of Trinidad and Tobago: Someone MUST answer fot the murder of this child. Those who pursued him will all be lying to get away from the consequences. They ALL ran together BEHIND him as he tried to get away from them. The police must keep each of them separate and interrogate yes interrogate them because they all will be lying "faster than horse trot". Someone must answer for the murder of this child. I don't want to hear "what good kids they are". If they don't know what it is to stand the consequence for wrong doing, well they will learn quick fast while sitting in the cell. LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE!! highly recommended.

These kids are out of control.... It's a shame that kids can't go anywhere and have fun and return to their parents... May you rest in peace and God will take care of the rest. NYC
