Four held
Security firm gun heist

POLICE yesterday arrested four men and recovered one of the firearms stolen from a Woodbrook security firm on Sunday.

The team of officers led by ASP Don Lezama, acting on a tip off went to a Couva bar just after 3 p.m. yesterday where they nabbed the men.

All four were said to be in their mid-twenties. Police said they recovered two guns during the raid.

One of the guns, a nine millimetre, was identified as being among the 15 firearms stolen from the Mi 5 security firm.

According to police, at around 3.15 p.m. on Sunday, two men entered the Mi 5 security firm at 40 Alfredo Street.

One of the men was wearing the uniform of a police officer, the other dressed in the company’s uniform, told the guard on duty that he came to ’drop off something’, and needed to get behind the counter.

When she opened the door, and allowed the men in, it was then one of them pulled out a gun, placed it to her head and announced a hold-up, police said.

One of the intruders struck her in the mouth with the butt of the gun, knocking out a tooth, before forcing her onto the ground and duct-taping her feet and hands, investigators added.

Both men then proceeded to open the metal box which contained the firearms and escaped in a waiting vehicle with 13 nine millimetre pistols, a .357 revolver and a shotgun.

I know the police in Trinidad are slow when it comes to solving crime or catching the perpetrators; nevertheless, we must give credit when credit is due. These police officers who acted quickly on a tip deserve a round of applause. This was good police work and they should be recognized for such quick action. I can only hope the justice system doesn’t let these criminals go. DC/ Boston.

Please Mr Editor, as these men are caught, let our People and the world know the Occupation of these men.It pained me reading some of those comments yesterday where fingers were allegedly pointed at our Officers from the T&TPF and Army.It is disgraceful and we have to stop blaming the Police and Army when crimes like these are committed. OAP'SYes! there are some miscreants in our Forces and they should be weeded out ASAP but there are also some excellent pple too. OAP's

Security firm has no firm security. It was too easy to access the area. Given the state of the country re crime, these weapons should not have been so easily accessible. Hope all are found before they are used to commit more murders.

The government must shut down this security firm as they do not meet the requirements to operate.

While we still have the majority of the stolen guns still out there. I am glad to learn that four people are now in custody. I hope they could lead the authorities as to where the other arms can be found. What is truly going on with these young men, they have so much offered to them to make something of themselves but yet continue to choose to live a life of crime. It is truly sad what our world has come to. However, I must note, parents must step up and do what is expected of them, these young men did not become like this overnight. While it is the responsibility of the government to put certain laws etc., in place it is not they cannot be held responsible or accountable for our children and the things they do.

There were security cameras at the firm. How did you think the police got the tip. They know what they looked like not everything can be placed in the media for "security purposes"
