Dad: Wear red to teen son's funeral

A CONGREGATION in red is expected to gather at the funeral for 15-year-old Damien Duncan on Saturday. His father, Amery Duncan, has asked that all wear this colour as a sign of protest.

’We’re asking that people coming to the funeral wear something red in protest to the way young people are being murdered and nothing is being done about it,’ Duncan said yesterday.

Damien Duncan, of Freeport, was killed following a BGT&T Secondary Schools Football match at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella last Friday. He went to support his Carapichaima schoolmates when they played against Presentation College, San Fernando.

The teenager was beaten by a group of boys. A stab wound from a broken bottle caused the death of the Third Form pupil. Another teen has been assisting police officers with investigations.

The Ministry of Education described the death as ’disturbing and regrettable’, especially in light of the work done by the Ministry to implement programmes dealing with discipline and anger management.

Duncan’s funeral will take place at the Chaguanas Roman Catholic Church from 2 p.m.

’A red shirt, an armband, we’re asking that anything red be worn to the funeral,’ his father said.

Whad a sad state of affair. More and more young people are losing their lives because of senseless murders. What is the government doing about it, nothing. And the band will continue to play on and on and on, more and more killings with no end in sight. May his parents find peace and comfort in his memories.

Dear Dad, I mourn for your son because I am a single mother of one son; however when you black men become serious about your responsibilities and start making your children with the woman who you have as your wife, then your energies would be focused in one place and our children and young boys would have great role mdels to emulate. Please accept my sympathy. My heart aches for the real wealth of our nation, our young men whose lives are snuffed out by none other than other young men of their own race. May God give you and his mother the strenghth that you need at this time to cope with this heartrending tragedy

Obviously you misread his statements because he specifically said to wear red to protest the way "young people" are being killed in the nation. He is the type of human the world needs, where in the time of personal loss he sees that his pain can only be alleviated by assisting the collective sum of the nation. The uncivilized behaviour that we've adopted of turning our backs on our fellow man is what leads to these horrible acts. Emancipate yourself from mental slavery and you'll see the wonders that you and we can do for this universe. Have a great day. Postmaster, do as you may.

Local sources said that this child was killed since he was in a Caripichaima school uniform. Apparently there is a gang war going on in which students from that school are not wanted in the area by a Marabella gang and he was walking by himself and was targeted. How ignorant are these young men, how sad their stupidity, that they would watch another human being who did them no harm, then beat him and kill him for being in your hood. Now your life will be spent in jail. Try them as adults because this is cold hearted and evil. Let them feel the pain they caused to this young man's family too.
