Oh Martin! Use your head! How come the US Embassy does not have that problem? Simple. People who are approved for visas pay an extra sum to the TTPOST representatives and they send it to their homes. You all at the Ministry of National Security certainly have tunnel vision. Apply this same system for passports and all the talk of security risk would be put to rest. |

Mr. Minister,
Could you also look at opening a full embassy somewhere in the Far East e.g. Singapore as a number of TnT nationals go to that region on business or work there.
Right now the situation is you have to go all the way to the UK or back home to get your passport renewed this is expensive and tiring to have to travel all the way around the world just to get a passport renewed. |

Ladies and Gentlemen, This is one of the few deterrents to Trinidadians leaving this Country en-masse to migrate to other Countries. Have you tried to get a speedy appointment to get a new passport lately? Never mind a Visa! These politicians must be joking! God put a Hand! |

According to the report, the Minister claimed that it took "54 days from application to completion" when the exercise was first started.
I am not sure where the Honorable Minister gets his information, but I got my machine readable passport hassle free in early 2007 (when MRP's were just being introduced). It took no more than 10 working days from application/ interview to collection.
Mr Minister, 32 days is an improvement, but it's still not acceptable for a country aiming to become first world. |

"Yes, there are people who are getting dates as far as in 2010..." I got an appointment date for May 2011, so its much worse than what the minister is saying. Also in Jamaica, a country which is 4 times the population of Trinidad & Tobago, it takes 7 days from application to completion to get a machine readable passport. Why does it have to take 32 days in a country that is a quarter of the population of Jamaica?? Is this how we are going to achieve Vision 2020?? Maybe we should revise that to Vision 2040, as we are moving much slower than Jamaica who aim to reach 1st world status by 2030. |
32 days for new passport from date of application

We should be embarassed 32 days after application and 3+ months to get a date.
I was working in Jamaica and a Jamaican associate whose passport was out of space was able to get his passport in 5 days and he was an ordinary citizen, not wealthy, well connected or a politician.
Jamaica does not have the resources we have, then how can their government services be more efficient???????????
But we have de oil money and more and we still backward.
Our government should be ashamed especially as we pride ourselves better and soon to be a 2nd world country. |

32 days for a new passport? I applied for my new passport on August 27, 2009 and has not yet recieved it, I think that is more than 32 days. Mr. Minister stop trying to fool the population but it takes long than 32 days to get a new passport, use you energy for something more meaningful than misleading the population |

I hope Mr.Minister informs the New York City passport office who runs it like their own fifedom!!!The staff is rude and unprofessional. Some of my friends had to go to the Washington,DC office for an appoint given in two weeks. The DC staff was very helpful, accommodating and even questioned why TNT nationals living in NYC were unable to renew their TNT passports in NYC.The NYC staff refused to even process a downloaded copy of the passport application. Why make accessible a downloaded application and why should you need an appointment just to submit an application anyway????.I guess this is just the Trini way to do business. No 2020 vision yet.WHAT A SHAME!!!!!TNT Lover |

Has the Immigration dept. considered issuing letters to those persons whose passports are waiting to be collected? Nobody and I repeat nobody is going to the Immigration Office to inquire whether their passport is ready. |

It's all well and good for Minister Joseph to crow with satisfaction and say that the waiting time for passports is down to 32 days. And I congratulate the Immigration Department for its work in reducing the wait. But only last week when I went in I was told that my machine-readable passport would be ready in about three to six months!
But that is not my beef. I am annoyed that the life of the passport is only five years.
This means that if I get my passport this year then in 2014 I have to get another one.
That could mean perhaps going through a similar set of red tape but of greater concern to me, it means forking out more money to pay for that 2014 passport!
This is a dishonest and unfair way to extract money from people.
Why couldn't the life of the passport be
10 years? |

ONLY in Trinidad could this kind of crap continue to happen, Can anyone tell me WHY it takes so long to process a passport for a LITTLE ISLAND? In America you can get a passport THE SAME DAY!and this is a country that, have to address REAL SECURITY issues.IT makes me think that the government is holding back the people from leaving the country. Are they afraid they might end up with a deserted Island with only the murders and the police left? NYC |

Why would smart people process passports based on what 'people say'. If someone wants to travel they should provide some kind of proof especially in emergency cases.....like a ticket or some other document confirming their immediate intention to travel otherwise join the line like everyone else. There could be an extra fee for express service as well which would be a deterrant for the fake travellers.

This is a blatant lie, my mother applied for her passport 2 weeks ago and was told to come back in 3 months time to collect. 3 Months = 90 days not 32 days. Someone is sugar coating the reality to make themselves look good. This is a lie and is for hapless Joseph business as usual |

Oh, please Mr. Joseph. T&T is not way ahead of any other country. As a matter of fact, T&T is A-- backwards. Most of their employees are incompetent, disrespectful and full of themselves. And I am speaking from experiencing them first-hand, here in the T&T consulate in New York City. They need to shut it down.
I am no longer considered a citizen of T&T and quite frankly, I prefer it that way.

This is not the case in Washington. Here all the mailboxes are full and there is no one but an overworked receptionist to take your calls. So if you are trying to make an appointment as I have been for 3 months, crapaud smoke your pipe. Make sure you have plenty $ minutes to wait for an automated menu listing that is is 45 seconds long and then just try to call #1025. You will see God face first.
You can probably get US citizenship faster than get your TT passport renewed in the US.
