Suspect in Garcia killing vows to turn state witness for safety

A man linked to the Rio Claro Courthouse killing of Peter Garcia surrendered to police on Wednesday.

He asked to turn State witness and for protection in exchange for his information.

Acting Police Commissioner James Philbert confirmed last evening that a man was being questioned in connection with the case.

The man’s information is said to be crucial to solving the murder of Garcia, who was shot dead while being escorted from the courtroom by two unarmed police officers. The policemen ran.

Garcia, who was handcuffed, died when both men shot him.

The magistrate, police and people in court went looking for places to hide.

The killers, dressed like construction workers, escaped by climbing a chain linked fence, and left before policemen from the station sharing a compound with the court responded.

Philbert said there would be swift justice.

He said the response of law enforcement would ’show criminals we are in charge’.

’Today we have lost some ground in the sense that criminals can be so boldface to do that. I want to promise the nation that we will find these men and bring them to justice in the quickest time,’ Philbert had said after the brazen killing.

That was 12 days ago. Five suspects questioned in the case have been released for lack of evidence, and leads ran cold.

Garcia was in prison custody charged with murder and wounding with intent to murder. He was killed because his enemies believed he would be freed on the charges.

The man helping police has information about who owned the car used by the killers to flee Rio Claro. The car has been seized as evidence in the case. The owner said the car was taken without his permission.

Images of the faces of the suspected killers have been distributed to police officers searching for the killers. The sketches were based on the recollection of three witnesses - a security guard and the two policemen who ran.

So this man asked to turn State witness and to be protected in exchange for his information, and the first thing the police did was to inform the press. Some protection!

Now I need to know why is it necessary for all this info about the witness to be made public. At the same time I ust commend the police for their swift action in attempting to solve this murder. However I think the press should not reveal so much info shich in my opinion is giving the killers the "heads up" on the investigation.

What is "Swift Justice" Mr Philbert? I did not know that any police officer, regardless of rank has the sayso in how long justice would take........Hmmmmmm..Something smells fishy.A slip of the tongue is a fault of the mind ans it ia also an indicator....Be careful Philbert.
NO PROTECTION! Posted: 2009-10-30 09:15:00 AM
He kills then begs for protection, no protection for him..it's only a matter of time before he is probably dead anyway..do bad and it will return tenfold.

Quote 'The man helping police has information about who owned the car used by the killers to flee Rio Claro. The car has been seized as evidence in the case. The owned said the car was taken without his permission'. The police could have checked with the Ministry or Licencing office to find out who the owner is. Secondly, the owner should have reported his car stolen if it was taken without his consent and since that was not done, then he has to know who was using it. Giving information about a car does not qualify for protection....naming the suspects does. JB

Yeah, who was there to protect those police officers who were holding Garcia. Man, kill them all. Execute the lowlife pigs and let's get on with our lives. Show them who is in charge. Swift justice, not in the courts, but out there where they commit their crimes, in plain sight of the population. Have no mercy on them. KILL THEM, KILL THEM, KILL THEM.

Lest we forget people, Peter Garcia was a murderer! He had no respect for human life or the Rio Claro police! Don't waste time and effort trying to frame some fool for his death. He was born into a life of crime and died because of it. Let's move on!Why must we as law abiding tax payers continue to support this!
