This is crazy for the Commissioner of Police to be sending condolences to families of the kidnappers. True, you make the children but you don't make their mind but 'oh my God!...Pleeease! Don't feel sorry for people who commit crimes on law abiding citizens. It's as if he is feeling sorry for these criminals and potential killers! Condolences for what? Why? Just say "thank you officers for a job well done" or "you've averted a another disaster." That's all Commissioner! |

If you have ever been a polixe Officer with the sworn duty to protect the public you would understand that law abiding citizens would not be shooting at you. Criminals do that with the intent to kill you and escaped unpunished for their crimes. Sorry your comment is downright foolish. |

While the efforts of the police in this incident are commendable, the COP lost a golden opportunity to express thanks to the victim's brother who had the courage and civic-mindedness to follow the kidnappers and inform the police of their whereabouts.
This was the most important lesson the citizens of T&T would have learned from this incident. |

This Commissioner is one of the best we have had in a long time. Even though the duties of the police were fulfilled, he still showed sympathy for the relatives of the kidnappers. Great leadership skills! I hope his speech will motivate other members of the police force to do their duty no matter what the circumstance. |

I think the Government should seriously consider dramatically raising the salaries of Police officers. Even though recently the news about them was not so good I think you can now see a concerted effort on their part to take the fight to the criminals It's an incredibly dangerous job and the men and women who put their lives on the line everyday to try (and i mean try) and protect us should be well compensated. |

What is the matter with you Acting Commissioner James Philbert,..sorry for the famailies?
1) They are the ones that failed them in the first place by not teaching respect for themselves, the law and other citizens.
2) Not educating them so thet can go out there and EARN a living like decent people instead of kidnapping for cash.
3) Do you think that NO ONE in their family circle knew of their plans, disposition or capacity?
4) To the ones that knew, they are also guilty of a crime.
5) This sort of crime is the result of the government giving "FREE" money to win votes and creating at least three generations of uneducated, unskilled people that are now turning to crime. Preying on the hard working people of Trinidad and Tobago.
Stop pretending policeman,....your people are also corrupt and at times involved in crime.

I suspect the police are operating as judge and jury and carrying out executions. It is very suspicious that all three were killed. Does anyone check to see if these people were killed at close range with a bullet to the head or heart. Are there any investigations after events like these.
I know these three chose their path and put themselves in this situation. However, they are someone son, brother etc and deserve a trial. |

Iam sure the law did not want to kill these young men, but sometimes it is necessary to take drastic actions. When those young men decided to go into the kidnapping business, they should expect to die in this way. Part of the problems is 'bad parenting' and no supervision of kids who eventually become criminals. Just think about the victims and their families, the trauma, emotional pains and fear their family experience when a kidnapping takes place. Maybe, just maybe, the families of the perpetrators now feel what victims' families feel and will take a closer look at their kids and their activities. Of course some parents/relatives knows what their children does, but turn a blind eye, as they receive 'blood money' which they have no qualms spending. It should not come to this, but it has and there are consequences for murderers/kidnappers and people who choose to live this way. We all have choices, and I too could choose to get easy/dirty money, but would I enjoy it? If you live by the sword - then you die by the sword, in this case GUNS.

Three men set out to wreck a life and died. The Police did what they had to do to prevent another kidnap victim from what would have surely been death. I congratulate the police officers and at the same time I feel for the families left behind. When people are evil, they meet evil ends. We need more protection for the law abiding citizens and if the bad guys go down as a result so be it, we've had enough of running scared in Trinidad. |

In light of her relative's demise, I am baffled as to why the young woman who said to her infant son and I quote, "Yuh see the police kill yuh fadda eh."
What presidence is she setting for that child, even in infancy, when you express those words to him about his dead father? Growing up do you think this child would have any respect for people in authority?
These young men were in their late teens and probably didn't plan this on their own. Young people need to take stock of their lives and take responsibility for their actions. As a young person you should be trying to educate yourself as there are so many courses to choose from given the fact that T&T is blessed with free education. Kidnapping and other forms of violence should not be a way of life - it should not be used as an excuse in life. It as the old saying goes - You live by the sword you die by the sword! So please, instead of polluting the younger ones' mind, stop and think about what you say and show them there are more positive avenues to take in this life. Always remember life is a cycle and children do as they see. Preach and let them see positive in YOU, parents, and they too will follow. |

Why is the Assistant COP extending condolences to the families of the criminals. The criminals know the dangers they face when they break the law and to kidnap someone who worked hard for his financial fortune, no matter how big or small, death is the price they have to pay for their 'easy' job. I say good riddance because the families didn't do anything to help them turn their lives around. Who knows, they would have probably share in the spoils as well. What the police need to find out is, who these men are working for? Who is the person recruiting these men? There is or are and older and more experience person or persons behind these kidnappings. If they are from Laventille, why were they heading to Carlsen Field? The kidnapper who is still alive, needs to be interrogated. How did the kidnapper know Imran Mohammed-Khan? Have they ever done this before, and what are the names of the person, and what happened to those persons?
The newspapers should NOT publish THE STREET where Imran Mohammed- Khan live. THAT IS WRONG. THE NEWSPAPERS ARE INVITING TROUBLE. |

As a crime-fighter,I would not recommend you sending condolences to families of criminals.Especially when your Officers have,or had to take action against them,(deadly physical force)while carrying out one of the country's worst crimes(kidnapping)which mostly ends in murder of the victims. These famiiy members must come to the Nation and apologize for their "loved ones"reign of terror. You are psychologically handicapping your "men".The message you are sending to your men is,they would have no one to support them,if accidents genuinely occur. What you have to do is approach these families firmly and let them know that they could have saved these young lives had they reported any suspicious activities your sons/family members might have been involved in.When reports are made prior to the acts, not only these young men lives could have been saved;but the country at large would have a unity that would work against criminal behaviour.I say investigate, if any one had information, prior,or subsequently to their criminal acts. This is a crime;"an accessory to,or after the crime".More family members and friends will report intelligence information to the authorities. But off course you Mr.CoP must ensure that all your men are honest and uncorruptable.Apologies or expressed empathy can come later when it's deserved.Aubert Modeste |

Mr. Philbert, members of the Police Service, I want to congratulate you for the fine work shown in not only securing the release of the hostage, but taking the rightful decision to defend yourselves. What I DON"T want to hear is you Mr. Philbert apologising to these criminals and their families. The families themselves had a part to play in terms of raising their children to abide by the law, and to do everything in their power to avert a situation like this .... lord I could see the replies to this comment by some people that have not had their lives affected by crime ... but too bad ... the truth hurts. Don't set a precedence that the police cares for the criminals with a line like "they were human beings and perhaps have a story to tell". The perpetrators (a) kidnapped a human being, (b) acted in a manner unbecoming of a law abiding citizens, and (c) began to shoot at the police. They (the deceased vermins) in my opinion and I am sure in the opinion of many (especially after the over 165 comments to the Express report on this story yesterday) deserve what they got. You want to take another persons life, then be prepared to have yours taken. The criminals in this country have far too long been on the upper hand, and I hope and trust that every law abiding policeman/woman will act in the same manner in future to rid our society from these scoundrels, vermin, cowardly criminal people that make our daily lives miserable. |
