Suspect in Garcia killing held at airport

A SECOND suspect in the killing of murder accused Peter Garcia was apprehended early yesterday morning attempting to board a flight bound for New York, USA.

According to reports the man, in his late 30s, was arrested around 9.30 a.m. as he was about to board an American Airlines flight by officers of the Organised Crime Narcotics and Firearm Bureau. The officers were on the alert for suspects after an all points bulletin was issued for suspects in Garcia’s killing.

The suspect is the second man to be held recently in connection with the killing of Garcia. On Friday a suspect in his 20s was held in south Trinidad in a car. The men are assisting police with their investigations.

This brings the number of people arrested in connection with Garcia’s brazen killing to seven. On October 21, five men were arrested but released the day after due to a lack of evidence.

Garcia was gunned down just outside the Rio Claro Magistrates’ Court on October 19, moments after Magistrate Joanne Connor made a favourable ruling in his case. Connor ruled that the State had one last chance to come prepared to begin the preliminary enquiry against Garcia, who was once regarded as the country’s most wanted man.

Garcia, 30, was charged with wounding with intent to commit murder, and with the murder of Rio Claro businessman Simboonath Kumar.
