DONNIE DICK, the 29-year-old man who appeared before a Port of Spain magistrate on Monday charged with robbing the Mi5 security firm recently, was yesterday granted bail with a surety in the sum of $200,000.
Dick reappeared before Magistrate Maureen Baboolal-Gafoor in the Fifth Court, charged with robbing the company of six pistols valued at $33,000. He also faced a charge of impersonating a police officer.
When Dick, 29, appeared in court on Monday, he was denied bail and remanded into custody pending a background trace. Yesterday, his attorney, Shalini Khan, successful secured her client’s bail as the tracing showed Dick had no prior convictions.
Dick is the fourth person to be charged in connection with the robbery which took place at the company’s Alfredo Street, Woodbrook, office on October 25. Last week, Leary Ferriera, Hayden Riley, and Caesar Collins all appeared before a Couva magistrate, charged with possession of two pistols and possession of nine rounds of ammunition. They were also charged with receiving a Smith and Wesson pistol and two pistol magazines, knowing the items to be stolen.
On the day of the robbery, two men, one dressed as a police officer and another as a security officer with Mi5, entered the building and announced a hold-up. Leslie-Ann Thompson, the lone female officer who was on-duty at the time, was assaulted and then tied up. The men managed to escape with 13 guns, one of which was a shotgun. Dick will re-appear in court on November 13.
