A MAN who claimed to be a soldier in the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, but failed to provide proper identification to prove such claim was taken into custody of the Regiment for questioning, after he appeared before a Port of Spain magistrate yesterday.
Lincoln Daniel, of Chaguanas, first appeared in court on Tuesday, charged with the obstruction of traffic along the North Coast Road, on Sunday. He was also charged with resisting arrest, and failing to provide his proper name and address to police.
Candace Des Vignes, who was in Daniel’s company at the time was also charged with using obscene language, and obstructing WPC Gillian Groden in the execution of her duties.
The court had heard on Tuesday, that when Daniel was arrested, he told PC Khaleel Balchan, the arresting officer, that he was a soldier.
Presiding Magistrate Melvin Daniel (no relation) asked that the accused provide his regimental number to the prosecution so that they could verify whether or not he was a member of the Defence Force.
But when Daniel reappeared before Magistrate Marcia Murray in the Third Court yesterday, the prosecution told the magistrate that the number Daniel gave as his regimental number was never issued to any member of the Defence Force.
Just after he was granted cash bail in the sum of $5,000, he was taken into custody by members of the Regiment for questioning, and will reappear in court on December 9.
