PM residence stage costing $10m

The three-storey structure currently being constructed at the Prime Minister’s residence in St Ann’s is estimated to cost $10 million and will be completed by year’s end. And it is an ’outdoor stage’, not a concert hall, says Works Minister Colm Imbert.

At yesterday’s post-Cabinet news conference at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann’s, Imbert, responding to a question on the new facility at the compound, said that while he was not sure how accurate the figure was, he had been told that the cost was $10 million.

’If it is accurate, it is certainly value for money ... from the size of what I am seeing here (in the structure),’ he said.

He said it was an outdoor stage, not a concert hall.

’It is a stage that allows for performances to be done outdoors, he said.

In a release issued on Tuesday, the Office of the Prime Minister stated that the building was part of the original concept for the compound and would be equipped with a stage, dressing room for artistes, toilet facilities for performers and guests, a holding area and storage space for equipment, such as tents and tables.

It will also include a media lounge, a drivers’ lounge and a garage.

Another stage for Trinidad and No Shaw Park for Tobago Posted: 2009-11-06 10:31:00 AM
Tobagonians are ketching their tails for opportunities for good entertainment because the THA broke down Shaw Park Cultural Facility prematurely, before bilding another entertainment area. So in some ways Trinidadians are provided for .Another Hall another day. We have to deal with open air everything - talk about lack of dignity.

Is that Imbert's new mantra?
maths made simple Posted: 2009-11-06 12:10:00 AM
Revising the 2 times tables, my son suddenly burst out laughing and said: "five flags equal 10 million dollar outdoor center, so that 5 flags could go into the PM outhouse two times. Woow! never thought of it like that. richard_stevens P.O.S
SIT IN FRONT OR ON THIS STAGE. Posted: 2009-11-06 10:51:00 AM
When your children suffer and then die from the lack of medical care,or from the poor care given at the Health institutuons,go with your loved one and lie on the stage.Do not move, even if it means being arrested. If we are serious,it's this type of action that is necessary,to get the attention of the world.Otherwise the greedy and selfish leaders will kill us slowly, but surely.Remember they go elsewhere for medical treatment.Let them explain this.Aubert Modeste

now that the prime minister will be relaxed after enjoying state paid performances for him and his friends, he can look at the crime and cost of living situation. Is this why i am continually paying higher taxes for????
