TWO of the five people in police custody in connection with the murder of German national, Peter Taut, were last night at the Scarborough Regional Hospital receiving attention.
The man and woman were hospitalised on Thursday because of personal medical reasons.
Police said yesterday they have been under guard at the institution for the past two days.
Investigators told the Express that the suspects, who have been in custody since Sunday, are also under investigation for other criminal matters in Tobago.
Police said yesterday the investigation was at a sensitive stage, but they were close to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
An autopsy on Taut on Tuesday afternoon revealed he died as a result of asphyxia due to blunt trauma, caused by gagging and restraint.
The autopsy was performed by Dr Eastlyn McDonald Burris at the Scarborough mortuary.
Taut’s body was found in a shallow grave at the front of his home, which was up for sale, around 4.30 p.m.
Taut’s home is mere metres away from the home of English couple Peter and Murium Greene, who were brutally attacked there on August 1.
Clint Alexis, who faces two attempted murder charges with respect to the attack on the Greenes, reappeared before a Scarborough Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday and will reappear on January 26, 2010.
