Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj says he has no plans to join with the Congress of the People.
Maharaj also took a line out of Opposition Leader Basdeo Panday’s political handbook on Thursday night, saying ’I will die a UNC with my boots on’.
Maharaj was one of the speakers a public meeting at the Waterloo High School in Carapichaima when he made the comment.
Maharaj said, ’People are hungry and thirsty to replace the PNM.’ He accused the Government of submitting proposals to change the present Constitution, ’although they do not have the authority to introduce a new Constitution’.
Ramesh said Members of Parliament do not have the authority to change the Constitution.
’The only ones to change the Constitution is the people of T&T, either by an election or a referendum,’ he said.
He said that was the reason why he and Chaguanas MP Jack Warner had burnt the draft Constitution at a meeting in Macaulay some months back.
Maharaj said, ’Trinidad and Tobago faces its darkest hour and we are lucky that this country did not have turbulence over the past few years. In another country the people would have rebelled.’ -LH
