ONE of three men charged for allegedly being in possession of a gun and ammunition stolen from the Mi5 security firm in Woodbrook was granted bail when he reappeared in the Couva Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Caesar Collins, of Calcutta No 2, Freeport, was placed on $250,000 bail.
Senior Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar advised his co-accused, Leary Ferrier and Hayden Riley, both of Couva, to apply to a judge for bail.
The three were charged with receiving a Smith and Wesson pistol and two pistol magazines, knowing the items were stolen. The items were said to be valued at $5,500 and the property of the estate police company. It was also alleged they had eight rounds of ammunition and two pistols in their possession. The items were allegedly found while the three were at Southern Main Road, Couva, on October 26.
At their first court appearance two weeks ago, attorney John Heath made a bid for Ferrier to be granted bail, saying his client had no previous conviction. He admitted, however, that Ferrier had ten pending matters. These allegedly occurred when ten people were robbed at one location, Heath said.
Thomas was said to have had pending matters for robbery with aggravation, possession of marijuana and also possession of the drug for trafficking.
Only Collins, a bar owner, was allowed bail on Monday. He was represented by attorney Selwyn Ramlal.
The three will next appear in court on November 26
A fourth man, Donnie Dick, has been charged with similar offences at the Port of Spain court. It is alleged Dick robbed the company of six pistols and also impersonated a police officer. Two weeks ago, Dick was placed on $200,000 bail after a background check showed he had no previous convictions.
Thirteen guns were allegedly stolen by two men who entered the security company’s building.
One was dressed as a police officer and another in the security firm’s uniform. A female security officer was also assaulted in the robbery.
