$9,000 fine for 'running amok'

A MAN who was described as running amok in his community, injuring his own father and causing damage to property, was ordered on Tuesday to pay over $9,000 to the court.

Ramesh Persad was accused of assaulting his father Krishna Persad, damaging a wooden door to the elder Persad’s home and smashing the windshield of the man’s car.

Ramesh Persad also damaged two louvre panes belonging to neighbour Rajendra Persad.

The 27-year-old who was high on cocaine at the time was held after throwing stones from his Esmeralda Road, Williamsville, home last Friday.

’The court cannot condone such an attitude from person who seeks to take illicit drugs to run amok in any community,’ Magistrate Alexander Prince said.

’He has to pay to learn,’ Prince said.

He ordered that Ramesh Persad pay $2,200 immediately and gave him six weeks to pay the remaining $7,000. In default he will spend four months in jail.
