Nothing to beat issue of climate change at gathering

With only 14 days left until the grand opening of the monumental Copenhagen Climate Change summit, this week’s Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, right here in Port of Spain, promises to be one of the most important Commonwealth meet ups ever.

’Even if every leader from the Commonwealth shows up, it is more than likely nothing will take precedence over the issue of climate change and the developing countries and developed countries sit on two opposite sides of the fence where this is concerned’ said one Government source.

The issues of Fiji’s suspension from the Commonwealth, as well Australia’s influx of Sri Lankan refugees, and further poverty eradication drives in the Caribbean, African and the Pacific islands are all carded to be addressed.

’The success of the Copenhagen Summit depends in part on the success of CHOGM, hence Danish PM Lars Lokke Rasmussen and even French President’s Nicolas Sarkozy’s (a strong environmental advocate) presence,’ said the source.
