Diego man shot: critical

A DIEGO MARTIN man is now warded in critical condition at the Port of Spain General Hospital after he was shot in the head late Friday evening.

According to police reports, Saluch Mungroo, of Upper Mercer Road, Diego Martin, was rushed to hospital after villagers discovered him lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to the head.

Officers say they have no motive for the shooting as nothing was taken from Mungroo, who is not known to the police.

Residents of Vander Pool Lane, Diego Martin, where the incident occurred, reported to police that around 10 p.m., gunshots were heard and upon checking, they discovered Mungroo in the unconscious state and rushed him for medical attention.

West End Police Station are continuing investigations.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, a 17-year-old Carenage man was arrested moments after he robbed a woman of an undisclosed sum of cash and other valuables.

Police reports say the woman, who was not identified, was heading home around 11.30 p.m. yesterday after finishing her shift at the St James Medical Complex.

The woman was walking along Agra Street, St James, when two men, armed with knives, approached her and stole her handbag with her valuables.

The men then ran towards the Western Main Road, St James, where two vehicles, one with regiment officers and the other with police, were passing. The woman is reported to have raised an alarm and the soldiers gave chase. The 17-year-old suspect was apprehended and handed over to the police.

The suspect did not have the loot nor the knives, and police believe his accomplice, who managed to escape, has them. He is currently assisting police with their investigations.

St James Police Station are continuing enquiries.
