A 50-year-old man is fighting for his life at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex after being chopped about the body on Saturday afternoon.
Hollis Shade, a gardener of Fishing Pond Road, Sangre Grande, reported to the police that he was in his garden shed on Friday around 9 p.m. at 7 1/2 Mile Mark Carib Glass Road, Matura, when four men approached him, two armed with cutlasses while the other two had guns.
The men, after obtaining nothing of value, chopped Shade.
Officers of the Sangre Grande Police Station, led by Cpl James Glasgow, went into the forested area after receiving an anonymous call telling them of a man with chop wounds.
The gardener was removed from the area and taken to hospital.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, two men were arrested by officers of the Northern Division Task Force on Saturday after they were found with two home-made shotguns.
According to reports, the officers were on mobile patrol in the vicinity of Sub-Station Road Talparo around 5.30 p.m. when they happened upon three men who began to act suspiciously when they saw the officers.
The lawmen searched the three and found on them the two guns along with 11 rounds of 12-gauge shotgun cartridges and four rounds of 16-gauge ammunition.
The men were arrested and taken to the San Rafael Police Station.
