UNC plans to show CHOGM 'real' T&T

The Opposition party, the United National Congress, will be preparing a document to hand over to the Commonwealth Secretariat in hopes of painting a ’clear picture’ of what Trinidad and Tobago is really like, says Leader of the Opposition Basdeo Panday.

At a UNC pre-CHOGM seminar, Panday said this year’s hosting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, which starts on Friday in Port of Spain, does not allow for the Opposition to participate in any way.

At the seminar, Dr Hamza Rafeeq commented on the issue of food security or this country’s actual lack of food security.

Dr Tim Goopeesingh, MP for Caroni East, spoke on the perils of climate change, and the country’s need to treat with it.

Opposition Senator Sharon Ann Gopaul Mc Nicol treated with the issue of women and youth.

And Senator Wade Mark tackled renewable energy and the need to zero in on its importance.

Panday, who is also the MP for Couva North, said his party would be condensing the presentations given, which they saw pertinent to both the well being of this country and the Commonwealth, and passing it onto the Commonwealth Secretariat, in hopes of it being given out to the various country heads who will be in Trinidad and Tobago for the high level meeting.

He said: ’We cannot approach the heads directly, that is not protocol.’

He also said his party would be supporting a trade union call for the citizens to stay at home for two days, (today and tomorrow), and would be closing its office and its headquarters at Rienzi Complex, Couva.

Man what a shame is this all the opposition can do? making a fool of themselves. everyone knows that UNC is just a bunch of idiots like the republican party in America. Fresh clean out of ideas. Panday stay away, all you ever want to do is make yourself look stupid, they already know of your stupidity

mr panday you need to stop crying, cause if you were the Prime Minister your face and comments would be different
Re: stop crying Posted: 2009-11-23 09:40:00 AM

The boomarang effect! Posted: 2009-11-23 03:44:00 AM
This letter will only show up the ineffectiveness of the UNC as the opposition party.
Pot calling kettle black? Posted: 2009-11-23 05:22:00 AM
What the UNC under the leadership of Mr. Panday fail to realize is that no one takes them seriously. If they were capable of doing their "wuk" properly the country's ills would have been fixed along time ago. That is the role of an effective opposition. Instead their flouting of the laws of Parliament, their infighting, accusations of corruption and theft and their discrimination against women make them unworthy of holding office or criticising anyone. Try setting the right example for a start and maybe the rest will fall into place. Or better still, step down Mr. Panday and put Mrs. Persad-Bissessar to lead and it would have been the smartest and most honourable thing you could do.

Two tongue Posted: 2009-11-23 04:46:00 AM
Is Ttuta a trade union?,if so Mr panday should know that it is a criminal offence to not be in the classroom when there are children and should be charged for aiding and abetting.Remember when you were in power and your statements about absentism.
No comment here from the cry babies. Posted: 2009-11-23 12:39:00 AM
So here we have a political party calling for work stoppage and not a whimper from anyone. So why are the hospital backlogged. why the sick is not being attended. why the garbage not pick up. I guess it okay to slam the govt for everything but not the opposition.

there is no way that this sweet country will be stabilized.there is too much overspending by the present regime and forever fighting by other challengers.unless something stable and secure to make our citizens comfortable in all aspects and facets of life,we are unfortunately doomed.GOD BLESS T & T AND THOSE WHO COULD HELP OUR PEOPLE.
