A SIXTEEN-month boy remained in stable condition at hospital last night while police continue investigations into the shooting death of his father which occurred around 7.30 p.m. at their Arima home on Sunday.
According to the police, Wayne Charles, his wife, Sylvia Zoe and their infant son, Jaydon Charles were at Zoe’s home located at Guava Avenue, Maturita Village, Arima when two men walked up to the house.
According to a neighbour, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the attackers stood outside the small, wooden house in front of its broken down gallery and opened fire.
Charles, 47, was hit a number of times about the body.
The child sustained a gunshot wound to face, police said. Police said the 9 mm bullet pierced his left cheek and exited through the back of his head. No one else was injured.
Police said Charles was taken to the Arima District Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
His son was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he was treated and remains warded.
Charles’ wife was too distraught to speak to the media yesterday at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, where she had gone to identify her husband’s body.
The family’s home remained shut.
