Trini woman found dead in US

The body of a Trinidad-born woman has been found on the shore of a small island in the Delaware River which borders New York and Pennsylvania in the USA.

The woman’s body was found washed up on the shore of Newbold Island in the Delaware River on November 14.

She has been identified as Farisha Rahamot-Ali, 38, of Queens, New York, New Jersey State police announced yesterday.

The body was identified through dental records after Rahamot-Ali’s sister, a resident of Willingboro, saw the state police’s composite sketch of the body and contacted authorities, US media reported.

Rahamot-Ali, of Trinidad, was reported missing to the New York City Police Department on October 27 by a friend, a state police spokesman said.

A cause of death has yet to be determined in the case.

An autopsy was conducted the day after a kayaker found the body on the island, which sits across the river from Mansfield Township in Burlington County.

Results of a toxicology test are still pending.

Authorities said they believe her body was in the water for less than a week.

The case is being investigated by the New Jersey State Police Major Crimes Unit in conjunction with the New York City Police Department.

A curious reader may well ask, why the New Jersey State Police is involved in a case with only New York and Pennsylvania borders. The Delaware River is the border between NEW JERSEY and Pennsylvania.

I knew Farisha well. What an absolute horrible tragedy for her family and especially her son. She lived for her child's well being and I am so shocked that someone would want to hurt her. May her soul rest in peace. Cindy .
