Contractor, 43, stabbed to death

KILLED: Ashmead Hosein

A 43-year-old contractor was stabbed to death shortly after returning home from the United National Congress’ National Assembly in Couva on Sunday.

Ashmead Hosein, a father of three, was stabbed three times-in the stomach, shoulder and right arm.

He was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he gave investigators the names of his two attackers.

Hosein died about an hour later.

Hosein was walking along Rees Road, Barrackpore when a car pulled alongside him, police said. Two men came out of the car and attacked Hosein. The incident happened around 6.10 p.m. He lived a short distance away.

His son, Ashraff Hosein, said: ’My father dropped out on the junction where he met some friends at the bar.

’He lime there a little while and then started walking to his cousin’s house where a prayers was going on.

’But he did not reach. The men killed him. I don’t know what happened.’

Ashraff Hosein, 20, said his father was involved in an argument at the bar. ’But I don’t know what the argument was about,’ he said.

Hosein was among a group of villagers who attended the UNC National Assembly at Rienzi Complex, Couva.

’He was a hard working man, who wanted to do so much for his family,’ said Hosein’s son.

A 31-year-old man surrendered to police shortly after the stabbing. Barrackpore police were in search of a second suspect last night.

His killing has pushed the murder toll to 464, according to an Express tally.

Well, sad to say it but, looks like the vermins and criminals have now expanded their horizons. Crime has definately reached south, and the southern communities. I hope the police here can do something before it gets out of hand like in other areas of the country.-Penal

Everyday life in trinidad is hard. people dont know how to let an argument go and carry on. now is jail because they didnt let the man go his way.

Contractor MURDERED Posted: 2009-12-01 06:05:00 AM
Another innocent citizen dies at the hands of the people who is giving us an international reputation as one of the worse and dangerous place to visit. My Trini brothers and sisters this can change by running the criminals from your areas, this would send a strong message throughout this country. I have seen this happen before.concerned Trini

Does the media not realise that it is 'keeping score' on behalf of and motivating some criminals to push the murder toll further? There are IN FACT gangsters who vie for the 'last kill of the year and who also read the news to extract that final bit of data that the media provides so efficiently to them.
Sad Sad Sad Posted: 2009-12-01 07:21:00 AM
If I don't ever come back to Trinidad it won't be missed. Only reason I visit is because of family...this is so dam sad. Just heartless killings for an argument...they should really just start hanging people in the streets...no court cases needed.

And is to still have no damn pity for the shameless act he committed...probably over something minor that could have been resolved in a more humane way....took the life of another man, a damn shame.... God bless Hosein's family.

one of the comments asked what is manning doing in regards to the killings in trinidad.. well answer this... if two people drinking in a bar and had an argument..one left..and was later killed by the other person he dad the argument with...how can manning stop this!!! this was not political!..its simply just the ways of the people in this country live.. just plain ignorance...spite..envy...have so way of decency in them...they always blaming the government for "every" single thing...come on..
Crime is Manning fault... Posted: 2009-12-01 4:26:00 PM
What should Mr Manning do about Crime? Thats easy;he should discipline everyones children, find alllll the guns in the country every last one and destroy it,all the knifes daggers, swords, cutlasses, bread et al melt them down,he must watch every single citizen 24/7,he must use his mind reading power and excellent screening skills to ensure that corrupt policemen do not enter the police service and Clone himself to ensure ALL policemen are doing their jobs and doing it right. I mean after all he is God right?
R.I.P BROTHER Posted: 2009-12-01 5:21:00 PM
This guy was family to me. He loved his children and tried to provide the best for them. I cant believe he is gone....I really dont understand whats going on in Trinidad! Some thing needs to be done and it needs to be done imediately. Anger management! self defence, more police, more squard patrol. Trinidad is not a big country and government can afford to have more police patrolling or on undercover in communities prone to crime.... May Allah bless your soul, Shaheed Hosein...
