That police officer who didn't stop to help was probably doing something personal so he didn't want to get caught. Their personal affairs come first even when they are wearing their uniforms. Any dumb fool will tell you that in this country. What a shame!! |

I find it strange that the police did not stop when they passed him waving his pants. Maybe they are connected to the robbery? Who knows. Maybe they got the call but knew the criminals who were doing the robbery, so they decided to pass and see but not help. |

i am proud to be a trini today ,yesterday and forever .I dont like the things the goverment is doing or the crimes committe ,i am sure most people feel the same.Every one is responsible for his or her individual actions. What we have to understand is no matter which goverment is in power their will always be corruption ...just the degree may differ. when we start blaming the goverment or manning ,that is where we are making our first mistake . |

man i saying this for your own good....go back to germany. it is much safer than trinidad... trinidad is a place where there is only law when the police feel like it..the corruption is unbelievable.. and the uneducated attitude of people is really shameful. imagine me getting robbed right opposite frederick street jail in the middle of the day.. and nobody say a word.. and i is a born trini. but not a thief and a killer...i work for my money. i promise myself i will kill the next man that want to rob me. i will do unto them as they do unto me..because when i go to court is the same bible i must swear to that preaches those same words. true or not.'? no more waiting for police or justice. because i never got any.I had to beg for money to pay my passage back home from P.O.S. FREDERICK STREET. i carry a gun now. it is for my protection.. not to rob people and kill innocent people. anytime the police take it i will always get another. and i will only answer to an illegal arms an ammo. charge. who get killed brought it on for them selves. true or not. if criminals want to live the big city gang style .in those countries guns are sold legally with a permit. so maybe trinidad should open gun stores and let the people fight back.. if the police cant do it by themselves then let the citizens help themselves and not always be a victim. i really hate trinidad. i used to dream of one day to retire and settle down ith my pension. now trinidad is the last place i want to go on earth. there are many more beautiful place in this world than to wake up every morning an look out an see laventille and beetham. |

It is indefensible that a police car would bypass anyone, and I mean anyone: vagrant or having a domicile, mentally ill or sane, black, white, brown or yellow, who is waving them down. The police are hired to respond to people in need of their help and if someone is waving down a police vehicle, even a 10-year old child knows it is not simply to say "Hi!" whether day or night, especially when that person is half-naked. The actions (really non-actions)of the police, namely, not responding to the 999 calls and bypassing someone in distress, illustrate precisely why crime is out of control in T&T. What are the solutions? 1)Better discipline demanded in the Police Force - there must be some police officers in T&T who are proud of their calling and are intent on doing the best jobs they can possibly do despite the apparently many inept supervisors/managers/chiefs. 2) Budgeted funds to hire more police officers - More government spending on public security and less [spending] on the frills that ultimately do not provide tangible long-term benefits for the public. 3) Better justice delivered in the courts; Justice with her blindfold on. |

i am glad that this man has the experience..thank god he is alive an ok. but i want him to go back to germany and tell the people the kind of things going on here. and nobody doing anything to help. people have no water and suffering by the side of the road as the rich pass by with their aircondition cars and flushing toilets and credit cards. people dying here and nobody helping. they drink from gold cups and eating food from the best chefs and drinking the best wines. while the rest scraping the pot from yesterday for something to eat. leave trinidad my friend.. go and tell outside people how life is here. how they paid 2 million dollars for a post some concret and a piece of cloth. and my neighbour has to aks for some flour to cook a roti for her child. with butter. but then you live in GLENCO so how you will understand anything. |

Ladies and Gentlemen, I don't know what sort of 'animals' my People have turned into, did this man provoke them to cause this attack? Manning and his government are 'hell-bent' on looking like 'bigshots' to the outside world, while this Country rots. Apologies to Mr. Pike who is trying to do something positive in the huge negative vortex of T&T. "Many a flower is born to blush unseen and waste its sweetness on the dessert air." Kudos to all the other 'People of Faith' trying to save souls in this era of madness and 'squandermania'! |

Mr. Pike, a word of advice, this country has gone down the drain, I suggest you go to another country. It's not worth it, you try to help people and this is the type of gratitude you get..Trinidadians don't want help, all they want to do is jump up and wave when Carnival time reach. That's why this country will continue to go down the drain and pretty soon, to the dogs. Don't give up hope Mr. Pike, it's people like you that makes this dismal gloomy place a bit of hope. God is going to bless you 10 fold. Be safe and God Bless.. |

Wow, embarrassing. After the show the country put on for the visiting dignitaries. Maybe their resources were so strained that they just did not have the manpower. We know that in that part of the city, they would have come out if indeed they were ever called. People said they called, but there is really no proof of that. And in this culture of turning away from civic responsibility, maybe they did not call. Somebody should have called again, after an hour. That said, CRIME, NOT CLIMATE CHANGE, should be the foremost concern of our government and it worries me that they seem so oblivious to what the needs of the people are. WE NEED A HOMELAND SECURITY THAT WORKS IN OUR HOMELAND. |

It would be wonderful for those responsible for the E999 service to provide an explanation as to why they never came. CHOGM is over so the forces would not be so stretched. No wonder private security and gun permits are on everyone's list this Christmas. |

Don't you know? They never have vehicles to dispatch. Mr. Manning could distribute those expensive vehicles that had been used for the Summit and CHOGM to the police services if also they don't use the expensive vehicle to go to the beach or gallavanting somewhere. What a disgusted police service....and thanks to the government! |

This whole thing is just sad. I'm glad my brother is safe, I'm happy that the young men were finally willing to help the police find the attackers, and the police got yet another bad report. Pike defends them a bit by saying that Government is not focusing well on local crime, that is true, but it does not take the blame from the lack of response from E-999, or the fact that a man cannot stop in a corner shop to buy a drink without watching his back, regardless, day or night as we well know. |

Manning needs to remember its the citizens os T&T that make the country work. They need to be looked after and should be able to feel safe and confident. Trinidad is in shambles and the government is only interested in personal gain. A word of advise book a ticket and get out if you can. It may be the country you grew up in and onced loved but it will most likely be the rason you end your life too early. |

We need far better response from our police "service." Their non response in in times of crisis is pathetic. They need to get off their lazy bums and respond rapidly, to call for assistance from the public. They are, after all, there to protect and serve. The lowlife scumbags who terrorized this man must be caught and made to pay for their dastardly deeds. |

It's amazing how much negative words are being placed on Trinidad, the police and government and not on the individuals who did the crime. I am not a big advocate of the government but we have to look deeper into the situation and see that the community and parents have not been doing a good job raising our youth and sadly all of us even the ones who boast to be living in America etc are to blame, because instead of instilling the values that we learnt when we were younger, we point and blame and criticize and hate. That energy my friends, continue to feed this demise the country is on. |

now this is what i am talking about ..a true and realistic comment. the responsibility of our country lies with each and every one of us.We are responsible for the way we treat our friends ,neighbors, family ,village ,community, and the daily life example we set.We "all" are responsible for the children of t&t. How do we expect tham to do better if we dont teach them ? If we living a life of lying, theifing and cussing ,just to name a few ills ,what
are we teaching them ? we have young people killing another because the boy watching him to hard ,people stop and think "what kind of stupidness is that? we have schools raging war against each other ? These are young children ?ask yourself "where they get that from "? We can no longer afford to continue to blame the government or manning for this type of behaviour.Parents and people, i beg you to come togather ,start taking an interest in raising your children and your neighbor's children and the children of your community.Dont be afraid to ask for help if their is a child you feel you cant handle or you are at your wits end .This is the first form of hostage you can ever experience ,when your children know you shame to let the neighbors know how bad your child is.Your child hearing you tell the neighbor he is a good boy and the neighbor just laughing because they know different.Nobody could afford to laugh any more. the future generation of t&t is at serious danger.Forget manning and them ,they dont have no young children.Get up and do for your self what no goverment could ever do for you ...teach the children ..... |
