A meeting for self-preservation

Basdeo Panday unwittingly revealed the true motive surrounding his highly publicised photo-op meeting with Prime Minister Patrick Manning. This conference really had nothing to do with informing each other about constitution reform as both leaders have both used their membership meetings to articulate their respective views. It had nothing to do with a new crime plan as both parties are clueless in providing solutions to this dastardly problem.

Within the last couple of months both Patrick Manning and Basdeo Panday have been under continuing attacks from members of the public and even from their own party faithful. They have been labelled as being arrogant non-performers who are only concerned with maintaining the status quo. The Prime Minister has been accused of condoning the activities of the embattled Calder Hart while the rest of the population continues to suffer from the lack of basic amenities such as roads and water. Crime remains unabated even as money is being squandered at an alarming rate.

Both leaders seem to have lost control of their respective parties and urgently needed a public relations stunt to mask their growing concern over their slipping popularity. Opinion polls have not been too kind to their image and they both needed a damage control intervention.

Faced with a sceptical population who did not believe explanations of constitutional requirements and duty under the Westminster system to meet the Prime Minister, Basdeo Panday blurted the greatest fear of himself and Patrick Manning-Winston Dookeran.

The $2 million red flag has been raised.
