Trinidad and Tobago striker Cornell Glen underwent a successful surgery on Friday.
Glen had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee to repair a torn meniscus. San Jose Earthquakes team orthopaedist Dr Mike Oberlander performed the surgery at the Sequoia Surgical Pavilion.
The speedy forward is expected to be ready for the 2010 season. The club had only one more game remaining against LA Galaxy on Saturday.
Glen appeared in 12 matches this season for the Earthquakes, scoring four goals and notching one assist.
’I’m happy and relieved that it was successful. Like I said before, we weren’t actually sure what the problem was but it turned out to be the meniscus which was torn and that was the reason for the pain. But thankfully it has been rectified and it’s just about going through the recovery process now and hopefully I can be ready to go on all gas for the next season,’ Glen told TTFF Media.
In other news, striker Stern John made a comeback from injury, coming on in the 63rd minute in Crystal Palace’s 1-1 draw against his old club Nottingham Forest.
Kenwyne Jones also shrugged off an ankle problem to play 90 minutes in Sunderland’s 2-1 loss to Birmingham City.
Carlos Edwards had a full run out in Ipswich Town’s 1-1 draw with Plymouth, while Jason Scotland helped set up one of Wigan Athletic’s goals in the 51st minute in their 3-1 win over Burnley.
Goalie Clayton Ince had a full 90 -minute appearance in Walsall’s 2-1 loss to Colchester United.
Over in Scotland, Collin Samuel also had a full run out in St Johnstone’s 2-1 loss in the Premier League to Kilmarnock.
Meantime, according to Ince’s agent Mike Berry, the former Defence Force custodian is back in the line-up playing with an injury after the other Walsall ’keeper also got injured.
’Clayton was called on to play last Saturday because the other goalie tore his hamstring even though he was also not fully recovered from his own injuries.
Clayton had a badly bruised knee with ligament damage and also pulled a hamstring. But he kept a clean sheet last weekend. Â ’The next ’keeper is out for a month which means Clayton will be called into action and play through the pain barrier. Clayton also played the last couple qualifiers for T&T against Honduras and USA in spite of a sore knee. It’s the kind of courage the man has that is a credit to him,’ Berry said.
